An author summarizes a short story from an article by a different author in the introduction of his book. I liked the story so contacted the publisher of the book about using it in my first book.
I'm wondering did the book author have to get permission from the publisher of the article to use a summary of it? As the article's author is now dead, did he need to get permission from his estate?
If so, will I need to get permission from them as well?
