there's one of those in my town and it's got a reputation for being full of snobby, untalented prima donnas. BUT...that's only our school because I have visited such schools outside my city and they're fine there. Just the kids in my city that go to that particular school think they're just all that (cliche, i know) and that they're better than all the other high school actors and actresses. Maybe this is the same for a couple of you all out there.

Yeah, theres not as much out here, coz actings not really something everyone wants to do. i originally planned to audition for music, but i lost interest in it a few years ago (the high school that is, not music :D) Then one day i realised i had another shot at it, and i went for the audition. It was really competitive to get in, 1 out of every 3 got an interview and i out of 2 interviwed students got in. i dont think i got in coz i was any good, i think i got in coz God has a mission field there for me and He's using the fact that drama and literature is a passion of mine. anyway im pretty excited, coz the place where the school is at is far from my house, and from its commonly known rep. its pretty clicky, and im-too-good-for-religion kind of places... so it will be intersting to take the gospel there as a friend not just a light.

be wary about Theatre Schools, they arent publicly run and so cost an absolute fortune to attend!!! and even after your education, there is nothing to say that you will definately get a part, even in the ensomble, in a Musical, show or whatever else.

I went to a performing arts highschool all four years, not for performing arts, though (my singing is publicly banned in 48 states and counting :) ) I went for writing. But I really enjoyed it. Most schools are centered around sports, but we didn't have any sports, just art gallery openings, musicals, concerts, coffee houses (poetry and writing) and that kind of stuff. It was pretty cool, because everyone that went there wanted to be there, and so you knew if you did anything wrong you'd be kicked out. There was only one fight the entire time I was there- and that was between two caffeteria workers. It was a magnet school so there wasn't any cost to go. Everyone there was really nice, and you were popular based on your skill level instead of your bra size. Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville FL. Far from you, though. Wouldn't THAT be a horrible commute?!

It's a public school that you have to audition to attend. They have them for science, arts, all kinds of stuff. The money that goes to a public school is for various programs, ie sports, band, ect, but for the magnet schools, like DASOTA, all the money from the government goes to help the arts programs. We didn't have a sports program but we had a theater that rivaled some of the pros and an entire courtyard just for sculptures. They have a website, you could prob. see some pics there.

Good point Mike, they are pretty pricey and now worth it.

And once again Mike you are absolutely correct about not getting anything after school either. Acting, music, and Dance is often luck of the draw.

I was once given some very precious advice: "there will always be someone less talanted than you, but still more sucessful"

But i figure God will use this school to sow many seeds. im a terrible actor a wretched musican, and hopeless dancer so i dont actually know why i got in?
Maybe it was my shoes....? :sorry:

a magnet school is a public school that specializes in an area. I went to the Academy of visual and Performing Arts in Buffalo and you had to audition or show your portfolio to get in. It was awesome!! I studied Visual Arts and Telecommunication Arts. Good luck!
