Although most people feel we are unable to achieve perfection, 'The practice of all the virtues is animated and inspired by charity,(ccc #1827)', which "binds everything together in perfect harmony (Col 3:14)", charity is the 'form of the virtues'. Charity upholds and purifies our human ability to love, and raises it to the supernatural perfection of divine love. By being charitable at all times, in everything, we are truly showing we love God above all things, and we love our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God.
The perfection Jesus tells us of is the love He has for us; this love is made manifest when we follow His "new" commandment - to love one another as He has loved us (see John 15:9, 12). How better to have and to show this love than through charity?
