  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about the Bible being a power to experience and that we should strive to learn and understand. It's such a thrill studying and learning the deeper mysterys and such ... it feels like it should be done in a proper enviroment, though ... such studies can be completely confusing for many of the ones who come through here with questions that are so much more dire and basic ... often too much info is quite destructive ... but that's jmo

I have nothing against the study of scripture ... I study and it definitely doesn't come easy for me. I remember so many times crying to the Lord wondering why I couldn't understand anything ... it's how I learned the meaning of 'seek and you will find' ... For me the meaning of the power of the Word is the power behind the Word. The Holy Spirit. God. Jesus is the Word. The Word is our Sword. That concept so overwhelms me with awe!To me, it's not a little thing. I just firmly don't believe He needs our help in deciding what He meant. He says His Word will not return void. To me, that means every time scriptures' used, it is used to His purpose, regardless if we use it right or not ... of course we should study to show ourselves approved, but we're not perfect. I know I post a lot of scripture ... it's what I'm lead to do ... some are given to prophecy, others to this and others to that ... I won't apologize for it, but I'll concede it must be difficult to understand. And it gets pretty wearisome feeling like a big pain in the whatever ... like people wish I would just go away ... but, for me, it is what it is ... and I trust Him in it.

I thought you made a lot of good and interesting statements in the last pages ... lost track of the earlier parts ... I learn a lot from these threads, although some subjects are so overworked I don't even bother to open them and read the thread ... I assume others do the same when I post. I see no issue ... regardless if you think a true signifigance can be given by just posting scripture mainly, it's just a difference in view ... you see it needing further explanation ... I don't ... just that simple ... it's all good ... and it's all moot if the Lord doesn't lead, guide, and direct through no matter how much study we do ... then it's all just hoohaw ... He is the One who gives the understanding, the wisdom, the knowledge, etc. That's the power to me ...

By now I'm inclined to think he will use who He will and how He will ... and that's more important to me than knowing all the things of the Bible ... I just want Him to be able to use me to His purpose. We know for a fact he used people who never opened a Bible ... throughout the whole OT ... I have no idea under the sun why He has you do what you do or me do what I do ... I just know none of it will succede without Him and His power and might and most of all, His will ... and that it's all suppose to work together ... and that seems to be where things generally start going haywire ... working together ...

I feel like we've drifted way off topic ... my apologies Yitz ... anyway, I've said far more than I wanted to ... mostly I wanted to say, yes, I agree with you ... we should want to know more ... and, oh, to experience the power!

No, that is not what I am saying. I'm not advocating just posting Scripture but a more Scripture oriented view point.

However, I find your posts on Scriptures relating to a topic insightful.

you misunderstood me ... I wasn't indicating you advocated posting more scripture ... but that's how these conversations go ... I meant to say whether you advocate posting more scripture or not ... I know thats not what you advocate ... anyway ...

this went a long way from what I started out saying ... I'll leave it here ...

I might add something the Lord showed me when I was trying hardest understand something ... The last time I posted it I was kindly informed the person would like to see something from the NT ... I can provide if that's the case ...

Ecclesiastes 12:14
the whole duty of man

Let us hear the conclusion of the
whole matter: Fear God, and keep his
commandments: for this is the whole duty
of man.

Thank you. I wish there was a greater emphasis in this forum on the power of Scripture -- I always mean to start a thread on it, but I never get going with it, being busy with things. But this has to be the focus among Pentecostals - the Bible, the Bible, the Bible.... the word of God. Spirit Baptism is great.... but the real basis of our lives is the Bible.

that is fine if that is what you desire, but for me the real basis of MY life is NOT the Bible, but the one who wrote it.
we can never underestamate the POWER (Dunamous) of His Word, but I seek the Writer of the Word rather than the Word that was written

The best way to know the one who wrote the bible is to read the bible.

perhpas you may want to consider the difference between knowing about someone as opposed to knowing someone

do you know Jesus, or do you know about Jesus
you can learn about Jesus by reading The book, but you can not actually know Jesus by merely reading a book

Placing personal experience above the Word of God only leads to error --

the last time i checked Jesus Christ is my personal saviour, and he personaly hung on the cross for me, My salvation (Sozo) is a Personal experence, so if you want to follow out your own line of reason to its logical conclusion, my personal experence of salfation by the personal work of Christ Jesus in His personal act of obiedence to his persoanl Father is the start of error

unless a person has the qualifications of a prophet,

what are the qualification of being a Prophet?
as far as i know they are not listed anywhere in scripture, perhaps I am wrong, if I am give us the scriptural refference for these qualifacations

who can add to Scripture,

please provide the book, chapter and verse for this as well

which as I noted has not occurred for about 2,000 years.

actually 1675 is a more accurate number, that is when a councel of men, at Nicea, decided that God wrote a book and then rolled over and went to sleep

We come to know Christ because of the witness of the bible --

please be careful of your use of "we" here, you do not speak for all of us Christians. I, for one have not copme to know Christ Jesus by the witnessof the Bible, but by Witness of The Holy Spirit

our personal experiences are confirmed by the bible

true, but my God is not limited to doing only what He has allready done, He is not bound by predecent

By focusing on the bible, believers will have richer personal experiences with the one who wrote it.

by focusing on The One who wrote the Bible, believers will have a richer personal experence reading the Bible

But it is error to over ride the bible and shape it according to our personal experiences.

just as it is error to overide the Bible and shape it according to some theologians personal experences

Using personal experience to determine what the bible is saying only leads to new religions,

ignoreing what God is saying and doping right now in your personal experence only leads to RELIGION
What Father wants is RELATIONSHIP

and then, usually there is only one person from a community of such believers who can say how it is done...

indeed, who was it that taught you this?

such as the Pope. So even in the Catholic church your position would have difficulties.

I am not to concerned about my standing with our Catholic breatherns, or any other mre men as well, but thanks for your concern

This thread reminds me of the following words, spoken by Jesus:
(Joh 16:12) I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

(Joh 16:13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

(Joh 16:14) He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
From the above, one could conclude that we Christians have the Holy Spirit to teach us all truth, whether it's in the Bible or not. But instead of trying to look for truth beyond the Bible, we'd be well advised to try and master the first, basic principle of Christianity - love for man and love for God.

The Bible tells us that a prophet is only a prophet when he is 100% accurate. At this time I do not know exactly where it is, but it IS in God's Word. I believe this should be proof enough that reading God's Word, along with your personal relationship with Him are both what the Christian brother and sister should be aiming at as their daily goal. Reading and studying God's Word is one of the biggest thrills that one can get when you sit there just pondering over God's own words, and being flooded over by the Holy Spirit. And without reading it, you can NOT know what God has instructed us to do and how to live. There is much more to the Lord's instructions than the 10 commandments. If you are not a reader, then buy His Holy Word on CD. No matter how you get filled with it, it is an awesome experience and PART of that relationship that you have spoken of. Next to personal prayer with our Savior, His Word is the greatest asset and tool that we have to learn and use for others.
We are also told to use Gods word, and to read it. It is late tonight, but I will find these scriptures and come back and post them for you.
God Bless

Thanks, lilmiss. :)

She's doing very well - growing and developing at a feverish pace. It was certainly worth the 10 year wait. :amen:
