  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

does anyone own a Pentax camera? I just purchased a Pentax Optio M20

the only thing I'm doubting is the 3x zoom. My old 2.1mega pixel Cannon A40 had more zoom than that ;) But digital zoom just kills the quality anyway. So I'm taking a chance there. Other than that it's got the size I want, the simplicity I dig, and tons of neat-o features for folks like me who want to leave most of the SLR capability to SLR cameras.

anyone know aout the camera brand's quality? what should i be on the lookout for?

thanks in advance

I haven't used a Pentax in years, but they used to be "the bomb" (that's a good thing). Heh. They have always been a third or fourth consideration after Canon, Nikon and maybe Minolta, depending. The Pentax K1000 is still considered the ultimate standard in 35mm full manual camera for the hobbyist.

As for their modern digitals, I have no clue :) There's some great review sites that I'm sure you've already found, though. I read a review of their newest dSLR and it was rated very well in most respects.

My mom had a Pentax SLR 35mm when I was growing up and it was responsible for recording many of my fondest memories onto (primarily) ISO400 film :)

thanks for your thoughts :)

I'm keeping my budget low because I do not need a DSLR nor do I make money from my photography. even this new camera is a luxury I'm not sure I need. However ;) I couldn't say no to a camera in my price range that actually works. My poor old A40! I've had it for years.

Sometimes you have to watch them go :)
