  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I do the same thing but it is not logical since we cannot catch anything from a toilet seat.

But then I will often go home and clean and feed the snakes (handling rodents) while eating at the same time and it does not bother me.
I wouldn't eat without washing my hands first, especially if I handle animal feces, or really animals in general. I'm a germophobe.

Is that the reason??

The germs aren't going to kill you. I've used a public toilet, and I've never gotten sick from it. I don't lick the toilet.

You probably get the same number of germs from using the handle to the washroom when you leave, and that is something you use to eat with.
I don't touch that either! GERMS!!

If you are REALLY worried about germs, you should be drinking toilet water instead of from water fountains.
See, toilets are cleaned with VERY strong bleach that actually kills germs. Fountains, that come in contact with people's mouths, need gentler cleaners and leave plenty o little creepy crawlies around.

Just a tip!

Eww. I have to revise my non-germaphobic status to allow for phobia regarding mouth germs from strangers.

I'm glad I don't like water.

Do you know what all germs are on the seat of a toilet? Would you touch it with any part of your body?? It's gross so if it takes 5 minutes to cover it with toilet paper, it's 5 minutes well spent.

Oh HECK no! I never sit in a public restroom, neither do most other women I know. Squatting's the way to go. That's what takes so long. It's not easy, hovering your butt a few inches over your seat, trying not to make more of a mess and keeping your balance...

As long as we are talking about this, there is one thing that really annoys me: Being in a gay club, using the urinal, and having a woman come into the men's washroom to use the stall because the women's stalls are full.

I understand needing to go bad, but so many women have done this. It's hard enough to go with another stranger in the washroom, and even more difficult, and embarrassing, with a woman walking by, saying, "oh, don't mind me..."

Funny you mention that. A few friends were up visiting this past week and I took them to Niagara Falls so they could catch a glimpse. We all needed to go potty and the women's restroom was closed for cleaning. So we made a beeline for the men's room, the one token guy in the group guarding the door for us. ^_^

Yes, women do this quite frequently. I guess most women aren't nearly as prudish about bathroom activities as guys are. It is just a necessary bodily function, after all. In some parts of Europe there are no stalls and no separate bathrooms for men and women. Just a big open room lined with toilets.

Where? I've been in a fair number of toilets throughout Europe (Southern, Eastern, Western and Northern) and never seen that.

Tell me where so I can avoid them like the plague! I do not go to the bathroom as part of a pair or a group - I can't even pee if someone is standing right outside the door, unless it is an absolute emergency. This sounds like the ultimate in social torture to me.

Germany has them. Not sure what other countries may.
Crazy perverted Germans XD

I guess I never have been in *public* toilets in Germany, though I've been in service station toilets where you have to pay (but get a voucher to spend at the service station to the value of the entry to the toilet price - basically to ensure only customers use without paying).

I hate going into a men's public bathroom after women were there. They always pee on the seats.

That is so true, and there is nothing more disgusting than used feminine hygiene products on the floor.

Unless they are in the clogged up toilet along with...um...other things. I have to say that it has been my experience that women's public restrooms are much nastier than men's. Perhaps explaining why some women choose to go to the men's room (much to some guys' chagrin.)
