My sincere condolences to the many Presbyterians who believe in the biblical principle of marriage and are hurt by this decision.

How many Presbyterian denominations are there? Could members who disagree with the decision easily find new congregations within the Presbyterian tradition?

The PCUSA is the largest group of Presbyterians, but there are other Presbyterian options and most communities should have a conservative option that can be attended instead.

See here:

Presbyterian and Reformed Churches

I suspect some within the PC(USA) who disagree with the decision will make their way to more conservative denominations, such as the PCA.

In an article titled "Presbyterians Clear Way For Gay Clergy" NPR tells how the PCUSA has now officially opened that door.

Read the article on NPR here:
Great, now the EPC has to deal with another influx of former and departing PCUSA congregations attempting to join our denomination.

Perhaps i'll find a more conservative (in worship style) EPC congregation closer to home, and not have to drive 33 miles to go to church.

May seem sarcastic, and to a certain extent it is, but the New Wineskins Transitional Presbytery was a logistical nightmare.

i was hoping that our denomination would get away from the Everybody Please Come mentality that it has possessed since it was formed in 1981, and seriously re-examine some of it's distinctives to see where they need be changed to conform to Christ rather than popular opinion.

Not likely with this mess.

I posted a similar article under Christian Current Events from Fox News and so far, everyone is happy about it. It's very depressing reading some of the liberal replies. I think I'll stop posting there.

is it a problem if the person in question is abstaining from any type of homosexual activity? or is just being gay enough to disqualify someone from the clergy? curious on your thoughts.
Abstaining from sinful activity would keep a person from sinning. But if that person is constantly thinking about that sinful activity, wouldn't that be a sin also? This is just my opinion.

"Save us, Obi-wan Kenobi, you're our only hope." :)

Actually, our church has already been approached by the EPC since they know our position on 10-A.

I think our church (and I know our senior pastor has said this) would draw a distinction between the inclination and the action. In other words, if someone had something in their nature to tempt them to homosexual activity but abstained, they would not be sinning and they would be chaste in singleness.

As another example, I know my own sinful nature would lead me to commit adultery against my wife if I acted in accordance with that urge. But I don't do it because I know it's wrong and against God's will.

Rest assured, many (to include myself) in the PCUSA oppose the decision, as is clear from the comments to this article on the PCUSA site.

The first comment to the article was by someone applauding them for their "Christian" position. I thought Christ didn't want us to be like the rest of the world. What's the difference between living Christians and professing Christians living a worldly life? [Thank you for the link to the article and I'm glad you're one of the apparent minority that opposes the decision.]

reading the responses is heart wrenching...some people have been in PCUSA for a long long time, and they will be leaving too..I talked to my parents about it, one verse that came to my dad's mind "Lord, Lord, havn't we done great things in your name?"

Please pray for my wife and me as we look for a new Church home. We were attending one of the minority conservative PCUSA Churches, and now I don't know what we're gonna do. I knew it was going to be voted on and was waiting for a decision as to whether or not we would become members of the local PCUSA Church. I feel forced to leave, the decision really broke my heart, at the same time we have to take a stand. I feel it's only a matter of time now before even the conservative PCUSA Churches become liberal. One thing this has shown me is the importance of Church government and like it or not how legislation has real effects on real people.

I find this troubling because on this issue a plain language reading of Scripture will tell you that this is [bless and do not curse].

Somebody, somewhere should've just tied themselves to a millstone and gotten it over with.
