Well i move a lot and let me tell you wal marts do have more PC games but a lot are not realygreat games a lot are games like "400 games!" amd "PC slots!" and dumb stuff like that.

and the thing is how offen do new good PC games come out? tell me as much as games for the xbox and the ps2? but i bet more then the gamecube seeing how they dont come out with a lot of games.

PC: Half-Life 2, Battlefield 2, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, F.E.A.R, Age of Empires III, Rome: Total War, Sims 2 + expansions, etc. All of them from either late last year or this year and most of them off the fop of my head.

The PC is literally unchallenged in FPS, RTS and simulations.

Now, on to the topic of Gamecube... Sure, there aren't that many games coming out for Gamecube. But I'll ask you: Do you really have enough time AND money to play all those games? Nintendo Gamecube has more than enough playtime in its available games, if you ask me. Then, there are the cross-platform games such as Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Gun... which look better in GCN than on PS2, so I might as well get the GCN one. But then again, I might get the XBox one, since it's even better! But wait! Why not get the PC one which looks the absolute best!

Without sidetracking about graphics, Nintendo Gamecube has pretty good multiplayer, only major fault being no online. Since PC has the absolute, no-questions-asked, undeniably true best Online gameplay, I had ONLY one choice. And the by the way, I can grab pretty good PC games at around 10U$ down here, knowing that the PC is the end-all of backward-compatible platforms, with compatibility spanning decades.

Most of the previous-generation PC games I buy don't work. Either problems with Windows XP or some other little thing. Too new of a video card, etc. etc. Most of my retro gaming is on consoles as well, since you can easily buy a used console for cheap, and then you know the games will actually work. Plus there's the old argument of whether using a controller is more comfortable than typing at your enemies, but that's for another time...

What argument? Gamepads have been available for PCs since...well, as long as I can remember. You can even get an Xbox360 controller that's compatible with Windows. But you are right on about retro gaming on consoles. I've been seriously considering picking up a PS1 at Gamestop for $20 and there are tons of games for $5 each.

People buy PC games because they can be modded. When you buy a game like Battlefield 1942 you are getting a ton of quality games with it...all FREE and made by fans for the fans.

As for money...for the price of an Xbox 360 and a game or two you can upgrade your PC to play the most modern PC games out. :)

But anyway...this thread isn't about that...it's about seeing consoles eventually getting what PC gamers have enjoyed exclusively for so long. :) I BET it will happen on Microsofts next system..AFTER the 360.

I buy PC games because I prefer WASD and a mouse, personally. I very rarely play modded games, nor do I play games online much.
I just really like PC games.

But, to the question at hand - culturally, Xbox is starting to fill the niche wherein the PC has long spent its time: gritty, more adult, more European and North American, and just generally PC in flavour. If they find a way to go about modding and such as you said, then I think that would be a big blow to the PC.

But, until I can move a mouse around and command armies in RTS or turn-based world dominion on a console, I'm sticking with the PC :)

Edit to add:
About retro gaming - I have an old PC with win95 that I'm going to be stripping down to DOS to use for old games. It runs pretty well even with win95 on, not too many bugs, but I likes me some DOS gaming.

My main problem with pc gaming is performance. I played EQ2 at a friends house and absolutely fell in love with. So without thinking I went out and bought it, installed it, and nothing. So I finally figured out that my computer couldn't handle it. So I upgraded, and then upgraded again. Then again I upgraded. Finally I could get it to start and what happened. It froze on me. So I put all the specs at their lowest level, It still wasn't enough. So then I bought WoW since it didn't require as high of performance. It worked good at first but as soon as I got near high population areas it froze up on me. I like to know when I buy a game it's going to work perfectly. I only get that with consoles. If they would put out EQ2 or WoW on 360 my dreams would come true.:crossrc:

Personally I think we're reaching a point where ideas are getting harder and harder to come up with and the price is jumping up dramatically on PC games. PC games arent going anywhere though, they have an adaptablility that Console games just dont have.

There are games that you can get for the PC that just arent practical for console like Black and White and large scale strategy games like Rome: Total War.

I read a few months back that they were looking into doing WoW for the 360 but I don't know if there has been any change since then. There will definately be MMORPGs for the 360 though, including FFXI and the new Marvel superhero MMORPG. It's even rumoured that True Fantasy Live Online might be brought back into development for the 360.

Funny how all the consoles are becoming more like the PC... yet people are sayin PC gaming is gonna die out Lol... the perfect gaming machine IS the PC. I've actually been seeing it posted ALL over the news, etc (even in a small hometown newspaper in Idaho) about the next generation of sports... called e-gaming .... you should look up cyberathlete professional league ... it's growing freakin humongous. I think this winter they're giving over $300,000 away in cash to winners?

Be blessed †

Consoles have 2 advantages over the PC.

1. Sports games. Most sports games are for the console and not for the PC.

2. Dumb factor. Consoles are more appealing who's technical knowleage is zero and who are, quite frankly, too dumb or too lazy to work with a computer (No offense to present company)
I dont think not knowing a lot about PCs makes some one "dumb" it just makes them not geeky.
