  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am sure most have heard this before, but can be a reminder of where to store our treasure..

There once was a rich man who was near death. He was very grieved because he had
worked so hard for his money and he wanted to take it with him to heaven. So he
began to pray that he might be able to take some of his wealth with him.

An angel hears his plea and appears to him.
"Sorry, but you can't take your wealth with you."
The man implores the angel to speak to God to see if He might bend the rules.

The man continues to pray that his wealth could follow him.

The angel reappears and informs the man that God has decided to allow him to
take one suitcase with him. Overjoyed, the man gathers his largest suitcase and
fills it with pure gold bars and places it beside his bed.

Soon afterwards the man dies and shows up at the Gates of Heaven to greet St.
Peter.

Seeing the suitcase St. Peter says,
"Hold on, you can't bring that in here!"

But, the man explains to St. Peter that he has permission and asks him to verify
his story with the Lord. Sure enough, St. Peter checks and comes back saying,
"You're right. You are allowed one carry-on bag, but I'm supposed to check its
contents before letting it through."

St. Peter opens the suitcase to inspect the worldly items that the man found too
precious to leave behind and exclaims,
"You brought pavement?!!!"

this is funny bc my husband and i were discussing the other day- when we get to heaven, God is allowing us to have all of the things he tells us NOT to covet down here... but in reality it wont matter anyhow because all we're going to care about is worshiping Him!

 Never thought about that! So true!
Great opening post and I for one had not heard it before now. If only everyone could let go of the things that weigh us down - be it in 'suitcases' or not - which stop us from 'flying high and light [ in soul] and free'!
God bless.
