  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In a dramatization on the 700 Club, some nerdy D&D boys were playing, and one of the characters died by a storm hound, and the only way for him to be revived was to find the blood of an innocent (child). Cut away to little Billy walking through the woods, and suddenlly running into Maynard, Chess Club secretary, and D&D player, and soon to be: CHILD KILLER!

Having known some D&Ders, they are far closer to the video above.

I've read fiction books that are obvious Christian and not fantasy, and they're completely cliche. You have the good, Christian family who is beautiful, talented, intelligent and can do no wrong and everyone else is completely evil and incapable of doing anything right and are generally "ugly". It's terrible.

One of my biggest problems with Narnia was that people were divided in to Good and Evil. Between the two youngest children, they said, "Well, Lucy doesn't lie." Lucy never lies? Ever?

Her brother, on the other hand, does, and is portrayed as Judas.

However, when you read the Gospel, even Peter, the rock, denied knowing Jesus because he was afraid.

It does a huge disservice to suggest that there are good and bad people, because it make the good people look like they are sinless, and makes the bad people look like they are beyond redemption.

I didn't tell a lie until I was 9 or 10, and I was raised by godless hippies. *wink* Lucy is supposed to be 7 or 8 (or at least, I've always thought of her that way), so it is possible that she doesn't lie.

I think that the characters are oversimplified into good and evil because the series is intended for children. And Edmund is saved, even though the witch and monsters are apparently completely unable to be redeemed, due to the species they belong to, apparently.

I don't know, I've always loved those books. So I guess I can't help but defend them. *grin*

Indeed, though I must say I only wish he had lived long enough to write the entire series personally, sounds kind of selfish I know, but I can't help it. There's always that nagging thing at the back of my head that says that maybe if he had written the last book of the series, maybe there is something I'm missing that he knew, something I don't understand that he did, some clue to unlock the big secret, and if I had read what he had planned to write maybe I would have divined it....
