Our Lady of Guadalupe: patroness of Mexico, the Americas.
Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception: patroness of the United States.
I googled for the US like mad - but with no success :(

Can it be possible, that this legend is so completely unknown here?

The saint, who lived during the reign of Constantine the Great, was a member of the imperial cavalry stationed near Amiens, in Gaul. Coming upon a shivering beggar near the city gates on a cold winter day, the young soldier divided his cloak with his sword and shared it with him. Tradition has it that Christ later appeared to Martin in a dream, saying, "What thou hast done for that poor man, thou hast done for me."

Rune of St Patrick

At Tara today in this fateful hour
I place all heaven with its power,
and the sun with its brightness,
and the snow with its whiteness,
and fire with all the strength it hath,
and lightning with its rapid wrath,
and the winds with their swiftness along their path,
and the sea with its deepness,
and the rocks with their steepness
and the earth with its starkness:
all these I place,
by God's almighty help and grace,
between myself and the powers of darkness.

@ Saint Patrick

The dates of Patrick's life are uncertain; there are conflicting traditions regarding the year of his death. His own writings provide no evidence for any dating more precise than the 5th century generally. His Biblical quotations are a mixture of the Old Latin version and the Vulgate, completed in the early 5th century, suggesting he was writing "at the point of transition from Old Latin to Vulgate",[12] although it is possible the Vulgate readings may have been added later, replacing earlier readings.[13] The Letter to Coroticus implies that the Franks were still pagans at the time of writing:[14] their conversion to Christianity is dated to the period 496–508.

I'm afraid my knowledge of national patron saints is very much centered on the British Isles. I knew England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, and that's all. :sorry:
That is OK!
I thought that those patron saints would be well known - the other ones less known.
But that NOBODY should not know ANY of the saints in the list - that I could not believe.

I always thought that every schoolchild throughout the Christian world should have heard of him.
Is he regard just as a provincial French saint in the US - as he was not a citizen of the United States, I wonder? :)

I've heard of St. Martin. I just didn't know he was given a country to look after.
