JER 17:16 As for me, I have not hastened from being a pastor to follow thee: neither have I desired the woeful day; thou knowest: that which came out of my lips was right before thee

1Strong's Number: 4166Greek: poimen
"a shepherd, one who tends herds or flocks" (not merely one who feeds them), is used metaphorically of Christian "pastors," Eph 4:11. "Pastors" guide as well as feed the flock; cp. Act 20:28, which, with ver. 17, indicates that this was the service committed to elders (overseers or bishops); so also in 1Pe 5:1, 2, "tend the flock ... exercising the oversight," RV; this involves tender care and vigilant superintendence. See SHEPHERD.

This is a good question because the leader of a church (preist, minister or pastor) is not really discussed. The preisthood is given to each member of a congregation, not to one man. So, calling a leader a preist is not the best. The action of the preisthood (each member of the congregation) is to minister, so a minister is not the best choice. The word pastor is only used once and is also translated as shpehard. So, maybe that is the best word for a church's leader. We see deacons and elders mentioned (1 Tim 3). I think pastor is the most appropriate today, I guess.

In Hebrew it is Roeh or Rawah

It means shepherd - Technically that is my correct title M. Roeh
or Messianic Shepherd. But since the conotation in English of Shepherd is
only one who tends animals we use pastor which is from the Latin.

Here is a verse you are familiar with:

Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Now here it is from the Latin Vulgate:

Joh 10:11 ego sum pastor bonus bonus pastor animam suam dat pro ovibus

I think you can see very quickly where we get the title Pastor from.
Those called to tend the flock of Y'shua are shepherds we feed his sheep.

He is the Great Shepherd and the source of where the feed comes from.

Blessings

Pastor George

By the way the Hebrew under my name says Roeh

I also want to point out there verses in Revelations.
Revelation 2:12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;

This is not an angel. This is written to one person at each church mentioned in Revelations. IMHO, this is more proof that there is and should be in each church.

Ephesians 4:11-1311 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

There is only 3 member gifts in this scripture not 5.

it is

Apostles
Prophets
Teachers= Evangelist, Pastor and teacher Compare 1Cor 12:28 which list the member gifts of the body of Christ.

1Co 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

Pastor and teacher is one gift not two and comes under the mimber gift of teaching, Evangelist also comes under the member gift of teaching.

The gift of Pastor and Teacher here doesn't even come close to what is called a Pastor in the Church now days.

The bibical under shepard of the church is the Elders. Elders being the men and Bishop being the office. It is the board of Elders having equil authority. Not this one man pastorial authority we have now. It is not bibical.
