CHICAGO - A pastor was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months in prison for failing to pay taxes on the roughly $1,000 a week that federal prosecutors say he skimmed from the collection plate.

Unfortunately, though, people want to use whatever case they can to deny God b/c of the all too famous hypocrite excuse.

"Defense attorney James Montgomery argued the church wasn't swindled because its officers knew that Ellis was dipping into the collections and approved the car payments."

Sounds like the pastor is not the only one that needs help. Obviously these ding dongs do not know the purpose of an offering.

Wow! Based on the title I though that some pastor just didn't pay his taxes. The fact that he stole the money he didn't pay taxes on is just messed up.

This pastor was punished because he stole what belonged to God. But God had mercy on him as the judge in the case only sentenced the pastor to the minimum time allowed.
As Christians we should forgive this pastor and show mercy to him. We should also pray for his family.

I agree, but even if the Board knew about it, that doesn't exonerate the pastor from not paying his taxes. It's income and it's taxable.
