  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

However, the fifth year and all ensuing years it can be eaten and therefore the increase is tithed (Leviticus 19:25).
Where does it say it continues to be tithed after the fourth year?

I suspect it is not further tithed. I have put out feelers to find out one way or the other.

God says we are all equal before God.
Oral Torah states Jews are clean vs the unclean gentiles.
Ritually impure does not imply sinful or less than. For example having sex makes you unclean but sex is a holy act (especially on Shabbat). A menstruating woman is unclean, but there is nothing wrong with her or sinful about her or "less than" about her. She is simply "set apart" from her husband for a while. In the same sense, Jews were set apart from the nations. In the Church, we come together.

Regardless of whether or not it was written down, the fact remains they were keeping that tradition. It was not part of Torah, but part of their oral traditions.
It was not Oral Torah. It seems to have been a local small t tradition.

So because you are a Jew you are set apart from your congregation [catholic] by the mere fact you are Jewish.... and thus you can have exclusivity which Gentiles can not have... like Sabbath keeping perfect.

Continues?? The fifth year would be the first year it is tithed.
Leviticus 27:30 - the fruit of trees is tithed.

The use of "Hebrew Catholic" (RCC) could be interpreted in this MJ Forum as those that hold to Two House theology, even if they have some evidence of Israelite lineage in their family tree.

Why wouldn't they refer to themselves as a "Jewish Catholic" in that Jew/Jewish is the accepted name for an Israeli whether their lineage is predominantly Judah or Ephraim or one of the other ten tribes (with Gentile intermarriage).

Sigh* Let's just skip it. I can't imagine why you are changing the subject to something you know I don't want to discuss except that you are wanting to jab at me, so forgive me if I take it personally I'm not saying that Gentiles can't keep Torah. I applaud it when they do. I'm GLAD you are keeping Sabbath vis. So let's not twist my words. Let's just drop it.

I'm still putting out feelings for an Orthodox Jew to answer. I know the law only applies if you are in the Land of Israel. I *suspect* that the fourth year tithe is the "particular," that the full tithe is limited to the fourth year, but I'm not certain. I don't want to bug my Rabbi with a question that doesn't directly pertain to me when he is so busy with important things. So I am inquiring to other Jews more learned than I am.

Any who are on this forum can answer too.

By at sunset do you interpret that to be at the beginning of Nisan 14 and Nisan 17 or at the end of Nisan 14 & 17 leading to the beginning of Nisan 15 and 18 ??

I ask this because some believe there is approximately a 45 minute time lapse (dusk/twilight) during the transition from the end of one day (sunset) to the beginning of the next day.

You know that was not where I was going with this.. I was pointing out the overriding "Jewishness" even in Catholic faith. Do you tell your fellow Catholics about the Sabbath? Or do you keep that to yourself?

Then, vis, I'm sorry I knee jerk reacted. I completely misread you and you have my heartfelt apologies.

I loved this post, vis. I know of lots of Catholics in the Association of Hebrew Catholics (some of them our Gentile friends) who keep the Saturday Sabbath. I'm presently reading an MJ book called "Searching Her Own Mystery" by Mark Kinzer, a famous MJ Rabbi. It's about the Israel-Ecclesiology and Torah-Christology of the Catholic Church. But even though it's an MJ book, I'm reluctant to discuss it in here, as I would be afraid of appearing to look like I'm promoting the Catholic Church. But just to say, Nostra Aetate hasn't even begun to finish its revolution in Catholic doctrine -- our relations with Israel and Jews and Torah are turning upside down. It's so exciting!

As Hebrew Catholics, we welcome the fact that Torah keeping is accepted, and we expect to see even further changes in the future. We have petitioned Rome for Hebrew Catholics to have a certification of our Jewish identity filed along with our Baptismal records so that Israel may be preserved within the Church, preserved and respected and encouraged. We look to the day when Torah will be TAUGHT and encouraged as an option.

Studying the Bible, specifically in line with the reflection of the Passover from the OT and the NT.

Exodus 12 and Matthew 26:17-30

This year will be the first time for me to be annually celebrating this. To be really honest, I am not sure how to go about it. So, I am asking what you do during that time of the year?

Is your Passover focused on Christ or focused on the Old Passover of the escape of the Jews from Egypt?

The Seder Meal I had in my home last night, and the congregational Seder I attended tonight, were focused on the Exodus. Tomorrow night, my Catholic parish will hold a Seder. It too is pretty much a Traditional Jewish Seder, with the one exception that the participants are reminded that Yeshua is also called the Pascal Sacrifice, and that Communion was instigated during the Third Cup. (I had the honor of being on the planning committee for this.) Focusing on Christ at the Passover meal is reserved for the Thursday night Mass, not the Seder Meal.

You should check out my Haggadah. It integrates both.

Gay = Inverted
From Websters 1828:

GAY, adjective

1. Merry; airy; jovial; sportive; frolicksome. It denotes more life and animation than cheerful.

Belinda smiled, and all the world was gay

2. Fine; showy; as a gay dress.

3. Inflamed or merry with liquor; intoxicated; a vulgar use of the word in America.
