  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Brothers and Sisters,

As some of you know, Passover began last Saturday night, and by the Jewish Calendar, this Sunday ressurection Sunday. I have come to the conclusion that Passover means as much to Christians as it does to Jews, and it is something that we shouldn't miss out on. I was doing some studying to prepare for Passover, and one morning before school/work I popped in a video of Zola Levitt's stepping through the ritual.

Then, the funniest thing happened. Zola had not even gotten started. He was barely getting the candles lit, and the Holy Spirit went absolutely nuts. I was shouting from one side of my house to the other and I didn't even know why.

So, I finally said "Dad, what is it?!"

And then, he said "Matt, don't you see? Don't you see? The blood of the righteous, spotless Lamb was poured out upon the stone doors of your heart. But this blood says not only to the spirit of death, 'Stop,' but to the Spirit of Life, 'Come in! Come in!' "

I attended a small Passover Sedar at a friends house on Saturday evening and then the congregation I attend had a congregational Sedar last night. Here's http://godonthe.net/passover/messianic_haggadah.html an internet Messianic Haggadah if anyone is interested in looking at what is done. It's really pretty cool. It was a Sedar dinner that Jesus and the disciples were participating in on what churches call "The Last Supper".

I don't get to go do anything for Passover this year, I don't think... I sent a card to a couple of my friends who actually celebrate it, but other than that, nothing... I even slipped and ate a piece of bread  (But only one so far ;) ) ... I did make matzo ball soup... that turned out well (and since I'm the only one in my home who eats it, I only have to make a couple batches to last the whole way through Pesach! ;) )... I thought about having my very own 'seder', but I don't think I will... I did equip my CF seder plate, matzah, & siddur, though... ;)

I wish I were still connected with some messianic community where I could go and celebrate the Holidays with someone other than just myself... As much as I love the Vineyard, they're totally oblivious when it comes Judaic customs ;)

Its awesome to sutdy the passover and realise that since Jesus is our passover lamb, everything that the passover lamb did for the israelites (back in Exodus 12 i think), Jesus does for us. Its also crazy when you realised that Jesus actually fulfilled all the requirements of the passover lamb. what an awesome revelation!

I did a Passover seder with my grown kids and grandkids a couple of years ago and we had the BEST time! The girls and I were able to tell the whole Passover story and then share the death burial and resurrection of Jesus and what that means to us with those who don't believe. It's a great way to evangelise, and was one of the best celebrations we've ever had together as a family.

My heart yearns to do the feasts, but finding anyone to share with out here where there are no messianics in sight is so hard. Maybe I should try again next year and round up my family and some friends and do it again.

I think it would be an excellent fellowship to gather in groups of 13 to celebrate Passover. The appropriate members can do their part, of course (a woman lights the candles, for instance), and the leader takes the role of the father of the house, and thus the role that Jesus obviously held. He gives thanks for the bread and the wine and the food, explains the meaning of each dish, and then reads the words of Jesus when the unleavened bread is eaten. I think this personalizes the ritual, and going through the entirety of Passover itself makes the part of it that we refer to as "communion" much more significant.

Adam,
Hey, man, I don't think Jesus would mind if you celebrated late ^_^ If you still want to do it, I don't think there's anything wrong with setting it up at any time of the year.

I guess there are different dates depending on which calender you are following, but the congregation I'm with is celebrating Passover this week. The first night was this last Saturday and it's all week long.

I was wrong in my thoughts. Somehow I thought there were differeing opinions amongst some on the dates. Passover is the same Hebrew date every year...the 15th of Nissan...This year 2005 that was Saturday April 24th and it's all this week. It concludes on the 22nd of Nissan which is Sunday May 1st. http://www.angelfire.com/pa2/passover/passoverdate.html

As far as I understand, the feast can be any day of the week of the Passover. I will try to check more into it though.

Whenever the 15th of Nissan is of that year is the day Passover begins and it lasts for the whole week. This year Nissan 15 of the Hebrew calender was on April 24th in the Gregorian calender. The Gregorian calender as a new day starting at Midnight but the Hebrew calender the next day begins at sundown.
