  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I really wish I could see this movie, but every theater in my area (Southern Jersey) is listed "Special Engagement - Sold Out". That's every single showing for just about every single day (unless I want to go at 10 AM on a workday). I guess I'll have to wait for the churches to release their chokehold on the movie before it can be released to the 'general public'.

I guess I had better put in my order with Amazon.com for the DVD right now. All these churches will probably buy up the first 10 million copies and screw the rest of us on that too.

I think you'll be able to see the movie before the DVD comes out - I think it comes out in December.

But you definitely make a valid point. I know that we Christians are excited about this film, and each people should go when they want to. But the idea of a church buying up all the seats in a theatre so their own people can all sit together, while nonChristians can't get in the door bothers me, also. Maybe they should have bought tickets and stood outside the box office and given them out to nonChristians, along with salvation tracts.

Maybe they did.

(and just when I thought I've seen the weirdest thing people complain about)
Surely you understand our point.

Maybe some churches did that, but I also know of several instances in which churches would buy out an entire theatre for their church members.

Which is why I took my Holy Rosary with me when I saw the film. Just in case someone wanted to save me, I could explain that I am already a child of God, and being Catholic, I know all about the Passion already.

Here in Arkansas, I had no problem buying a ticket on Ash Wednesday [that's Catholic, too] at 3:15 p.m. for the 4:00 p.m. showing.

No one was passing out tracts here.

I'm glad you did that; I think it's an excellent idea - it gives nonChristians the ability to know you are a Christian, that way if they have questions, they'll know you are someone they can ask.

I'm going to go see the movie (eventually - probably with my mother so I can get her out of there if she starts to collapse and so I can read her the subtitles) but I don't really want anyone to try and 'save' me while I'm there.
Don't worry - none of us can "save you" anyway. That's the job for the Holy Spirit. Sometimes Christians forget that. Christians should just be concerned with "planting the seed". But if you have questions about it, I'm sure there will be many people who have the time to speak with you.

Well although I understand what you guys are saying, I know of alot of churches that bought up the seats so that they could give away the free tickets to people who wanted to see the movies [usually friends of the church goes- christian and non-christians]. This movie will be out for a long time so I'm sure you will get your chance to see it. It will be worth it [IMHO]

I visited a church the week before the movie came out and they said they had blocked an entire theater. Of course, they asked all of their members to use it as a witnessing tool, not for themselves or their families. If they wanted to go, they should take a non-believer and go another time with their families. I had the opportunity to get my tickets then but I didn't because I wanted to make sure there were enough seats for the outreach. $117 million in five days doesn't sound like an outreach to me. It sounds like a lot of Christians took advantage of a situation.

It's kind of like the reserved seating in some movie theaters. No matter how early you show up, you can't get the best seat in the house. That goes to the people who have no problem paying an extra couple bucks per seat. And they can show up after the movie started and get a better seat than someone who paid full price for a ticket and came 45 minutes early.

Thanks for all of the responses!

That's what our church is doing, we are giving the tickets away, if you know someone, you give them a ticket.
