Once upon a time in a land not far from you and I, lived a regular ordinary girl, in a not so ordinary town. Ogres, witches, genies and elves all roamed the towns. Now tell me, doesn't that sound a little out of the ordinary for you? Well for Marianna Klassen and her friend Rupert Hoff it was all so normal, it was their home, and for Marianna, everything was going to change. Her beautiful brown eyes and bright loving smile were well known with the boys in town. She had broken many a heart, but this was only because she did not wish to break her own. In this fairytale land, she believed that once her heart was given, she would never be taken back. Some thought this a childish idea. Marianna would occasionally court one of the men in town, but this was often short lived for they never met her high standards. Until now...

Marianna Klassen was walking through the street one day when Rupert came running toward her, "Marianna! You need to come with me!"
Marianna look at him, very confused, "Goodness Rupert, what do you want? You really need to pick better times to jump me with your stupid ideas! I'm in a hurry! I have to get to Annalisia's house for piano practice."
Rupert had been happier lately do to the fact that he had found the love of his life...a young maid named Gwyndolyn. He now knew the wondrous feeling of love, but his dear friend, Marianna was lonely, without this love he knew. Rupert sought out a solution. He went out looking for the perfect match for Marianna. Not just anyone would do for his dear friend. After diligent searching he found someone who he felt was right for Marianna. His name was Garth Bromley. Garth was a tall, handsome young man, who was actually the son of a well known prophet. Rupert encouraged Marianna to attend one of the prophet's ceremonies. Although very reluctant at first, Marianna agreed to attend.
"I will come, but if you dare attempt your matchmaking, Rupert, I shall have your head!"
He winked at her and hurried off to find Gwyndolyn. "You won't be sorry, Marianna, I promise!"

Sunday came; she walked into the grand hall of the cathedral, amazed by the glorious marble pillars and the splendid aroma of perfume worn by all of the fine women in town. They wore marvelous gowns and the men who accompanied them matched their beauty in their black suits and large top hats, this made her feel slightly out of place. She fingered her simple blue gown as she sifted through the people in their pompous attire. I am but a simple peasant girl, how can I ever possibly fit in? Just as that thought popped into her head she accidentally bumped into someone behind her as she backed up, "Oh, please forgive me sir." She turned around to see a handsome, broad shouldered man, about 20 in age with dark brown hair, quite the same as hers. His deep blue eyes shone like the sky on a clear day, she found herself staring at him and her face flushed to a bright rosy color.
"Oh, tis no problem milady, my name is Garth Bromley. I am the son of the prophet. I see you are new to our congregation. Please, may I help you? Are you looking for someone?"
Marianna smiled; "I came with my friend Rupert but I seemed to have lost him." she looked around trying to avert her gaze from the strong figure which towered in front of her. He could not seem to take his eyes off of her.
"I have told you my name but pray tell what is yours?" His smile was intoxicating! How could she not look at him, her mouth opened and the words almost didn't come out.
"My name is Marianna Klassen." she had never been shy around men, why should this one be so different? "I was told that your father was quite the speaker." She froze when he did not answer but with a simple nod. Those eyes! She felt like they were peering into her very soul! "I...er...I must be going, I have to find my friend, he will surely be looking for me." just at that moment Rupert appeared behind her. She couldn't believe what wonderful timing he had. "Ah, Rupert! We should be finding a seat, wouldn't want to miss the service simply because we were late to be seated!" Rupert looked at her being quite puzzled.
"But my friend, the service does not start for another hour, we have plenty enough time to dawdle!" he smiled and noticed why she was nervous, in front of her stood the tall powerful frame of the prophet's son. He stood far taller than Rupert, this was not hard to achieve, and even Marianna was a head taller than her friend.
"Ah! Hello there my friend, I am Rupert, I believe we met the other day." Rupert smiled at the man, his slightly crooked teeth fully visible.
"Rupert! My friend, how have you been since I saw you last?" Rupert and Garth walked off speaking to each other. Marianna felt so alone, how could she feel this alone while she was surrounded by this many people?! She did not know whether to follow them or not, but by the time she decided to it was far too late; they had already slipped into the crowd. From behind her she heard someone clear their throat.
"Hello there." she turned around to see a young man who stood about as tall as she, he wasn't as robust as Garth but his dark brown eyes were filled with joy and flickered with a bit of curiosity, "My name is Jude Artherton, I am the son of the new doctor in town, might I have the pleasure of escorting such a lovely lady as yourself to her seat?" He took her hand to lead her to a seat she didn't feel as intimidated by him as she did Garth. They sat down in a pew about the middle of the church. She and Jude spoke about different things and made small talk. She noticed that he had a very captivating smile. After talking a while he stopped and exclaimed "Why, how silly of me! We've been talking for a whole 5 minutes and not once have I asked for your name! How un-gentlemanly of me!" He cleared his throat and looked at her trying to act serious although a smile shone through, "Milady, pray-tell may I ask your name"
She blushed. "My name is Marianna Klassen. I am terribly sorry for not introducing myself before. Tis my fault entirely, Mr. Artherton." she laughed and smiled warmly at him. Just then the service began. She could not see Rupert so she stayed in her seat with Jude. After the service was over Jude turned to her and smiled, "My Dear Miss Klassen, I must take my leave, but we shall meet again, I promise." he took her delicate hand and placed his lips upon it as though to seal his promise. Then he turned around and left through the large oak doors. She stayed for a little while searching for Rupert, but to no avail. Finally when she went outside, to find that he and Garth had been waiting on her.
"I am so sorry Marianna! I thought that you were following me when I left! We were looking for you all over the place! Garth and I were just speaking about you he wishes to invite us to his home for dinner; I suppose your parents would have no reason to disapprove of such?" Rupert smiled and winked at her. Garth paid no attention to Rupert; he was too busy looking at Marianna.
"I'm afraid we're having family in for dinner today. May I be so bold as to ask you to post-pone that offer till next week?" Marianna smiled, "Unless it’s a bother, sir."
Garth smiled back at her, "My dear, bring your whole family if you like! I’m sure my mother would not disapprove of the company, and my father loves to talk."
"I shall see you next week then Mr. Bromley."
"Till next week Miss. Klassen." He bowed and walked off.
