  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pardoning Trump

If Biden pardoned Trump would that be received as a gesture of reconciliation or as an insult?

Or worse yet, an attempt to ingratiate?
That occurred to me.

All of the above.

Ya, I guess so.
It would be condescending and butt ring kissing at the same time.
Personally I think it would benefit the nation to put an end to it all and let the president just be the president.

Reconciliation, I even think they can be personal friends.

Biden won't. He'll force Trump to pardon himself but either way, it would be an admission of guilt for Trump. (Will Trump pardon himself when he understands that it is basically implied guilt.)

If Biden pardons some of the Jan 6 committee criminals I guess that would be an admission of guilt.

Does Trump even have any outstanding Federal cases against him? Biden can't pardon the state cases.
In any case, I'm very much in favor of reconciliatory acts. I thought Trump should have pardoned Hunter, if Biden hadn't.

There are no more federal cases active against Trump, but those charges could be brought again once he's no longer President. So a pardon could help that.
