Paradox of Tolerance?

Arguably of course, we are living, secular though it may be, in one of hte most peaceful periods in history in terms of number of conflicts.
And of course we can remember that, even in continents where christianity was a leader, we had a faaaaaaaaaar thing from a peaceful society to live in.

That was my point. John Locke wrote a lot of what he did because of the 30 years war back in the 1600s.

Well I guess we'll see if the cheap secular substitute does a better job at creating a relatively peacefilled world than us Christians did back then.

Time will tell. ... in the meantime, I'm still waiting for the official definition of "Tolerance" to be handed down from on High.

Tolerance should be thought of as distinct from endorsement. One can argue against the position of others without persecuting them, too. But we should live without trouble among others who are different when they are not actually threatening us.

The paradox of intolerance actually came with a method of identifying the intolerant.

They don't debate.

The intolerant will bear no criticism nor critique nor debate their views.

So when one regards who is and isn't tolerant....ask yourself, are they willing to allow others to scrutinize their beliefs?

Many won't give any definition because it would show that the calls for tolerance these days are usually being made by the intolerant.
