Pants? Really?

Are men really led to temptation by ladies with their hair down? Tops that expose the collarbone? Pants (even if they aren't tight)?

I don't want to be an occasion of sin for anyone, but never have I heard these things mentioned in regard to modesty before. Thoughts?

well, i don't really find girls attractive if you know what i mean, but i don't think guys are all as "get down your pants" as you think. i constantly hear girls say "oh, all he wants to do is get down my pants" or "i'm ugly.. there's no way he will like me." i honestly don't find that to be true. now yes, a large minority do look at looks, but most if you ask me, look for what's in the inside. try to realize that!

I think that some take it to the extreme. I've always been able to concentrate should some woman decide that she wants to let her hair down. I've even been known to permit women wearing t-shirts into my presence - though it is a rare occasion and requires much behind the scenes negotiation.

I've heard people say that too. I think it can be a very individual thing, and very much influenced by culture. I've heard people say on other parts of this forum that they only ever wear skirts because it's more modest, but I've lived in countries where I couldn't wear a skirt in public because I would be harassed by men on the streets (I'm talking skirts way below the knee here). I could only wear pants, if I were considered as being modest.

Another example is shorts. I've been in (colder) countries where it is considered rude to wear shorts to Mass. It's not even close to being considered rude where I live at the moment, because it gets so hot in summer. One I can't shake is having my shoulders uncovered in Church, because I've lived places where this is rude and un modest. It's very very common to wear singlet tops here, but I can't bring myself to do it.

I think that while it is important to fit in to standards of modesty in the area you are in to a certain extent, it is easy to go to the extreme. My rule of thumb is to make sure I'm not pointedly showing anything off.

I certainly hope not!

Now, I dont think pants should be skin tight...nor shirts for that matter...

I think it depends on the pants.

Hot pants... or very tight jeans have the tendency to um... distract you.

Tight shirts too. Showing the collarbone wouldn't... nor would letting hair down (though that does add a certain attractiveness to certain girls )
