It'll never come to my town, so I'm downloading a torrent copy of it right now. It's been going for a couple of days now, and will likely take another week to complete unless someone with a ton of bandwidth starts seeding, but I've been looking forward to it for ages now. The reviews I've seen have been universally positive, and it just looks so incredibly interesting.... The scenes that I've seen look beautiful, gorgeous art direction and effects. I'll stop in once I've seen it and give my thoughts on the film as a whole.

Ok, saw it this evening. VERY well made film. It contained less fantasy then I thought it would..I'd say about 20% of it was actual fantasy, with the rest being a gripping wartime drama. Great film though, if you can stomach some scenes of graphic violence (though nothing worse then in a horror film or a wartime action flick) then go see it.

I saw it last month and it ended up being one of my favorite films of the year (Only The Departed topped it in my opinion). While all the critics have been raving about it being an amazing fantasy film it's really more of a war drama with fantasy elements (like was said above, maybe 20% is fantasy).

It's really hard to describe as it's something that needs to be seen to appreciate. Just be ready for a few scenes of explicit violence.

Also, I really hope Del Toro gives it a nice DVD set. Something like the Hellboy extended set would be nice.

Just saw it. Great movie.

I don't know about anyone else, but this was one of the most heart-wrenching movies I've seen. It had nothing to do with the graphic violence, but rather the story, and the context with which the fantasy element was interwoven into it.

Definitely not for children like I had originally thought (I laugh now at that though) and definitely not for the faint of heart.

I saw it a few weeks ago. I dunno...it's a well-made film, but all in all it just seems like a standard fairy-tale story that doesn't sugar coat it like a company like Disney would sugar coat it. It's far more mature than most fairy tales you'll see and it mixes the reality with the fantasy, so the whole thing isn't some cheesy "oh man im in a fantasy land" the whole time sort of thing. I enjoyed how it mixed the fantasy elements with the real-life elements and also showed the importance of family.

Some of the parts disturbed my girlfriend, but since I've seen some pretty disturbing stuff it didn't bother me too much.

For those who don't know, this is a Spanish film. The audio is in spanish and the subtitles are in English (This is assuming you're watching this in America, can't speak for anyone else I'm afraid).

I liked it. If I had to give it a rating, I'd give it a 82/100 because a lot of the parts were really put together well, but it didn't really do a whole to "captivate" me like I thought it was going to.
