• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Please help with this I am panicking that I have done blasphemy, and I have asked for forgiveness many times. I have been told and read that it is not believing in God which would mean that I am not committing it, but then I think what if that was a misinterpretation of the Bible and I actually have done it? I can't stop panicking over it can someone who is absolutely sure tell me? It's only 10:50 a.m. and I have things to do today and I am already exhausted from all the panic and just looking at that word that starts with b is making me nauseous

The fact that you are that concerned about it shows that you have certainly not committed blasphemy.

Ok thank you I am starting to calm down a bit but I can't stop the "what if" thoughts, like what if we are misinterpreting the Bible.. it makes me extremely terrified thinking of something as unforgivable
A believer cannot commit the unforgivable sin. How can someone who has been born again (John 3:7), made a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17), and received eternal life (John 10:27-28) actually commit the unforgivable sin? He cannot. Jesus Himself said that we have eternal life, not conditional life: "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand" (John 10:27-28). Besides, it says in 2 Cor. 5:17 that the Christian is a new creation in Christ. We are different, no longer slaves to the old nature (Rom. 6:14). We are regenerated by the Holy Spirit.
There is no biblical support for a believer committing this sin. It just hasn't happened. Also, if you are worried that you may have committed the sin and can't be forgiven, then don't be concerned. If you are worrying about it, then you haven't committed it. If you are worried about it, that is a sign you have not committed it. If you had, you wouldn't be concerned.

I have read that on a website a few minutes ago during a panic attack, but I can't seem to fully get rid of the panic.. I keep thinking what if that refers to regular sins and not unforgivable sins and that I might be doomed :swoon:
I had the same feeling at one time. I was worried just like you. Over time I realized I couldn't have committed blasphemy. God still answers my prayers, He still gives me joy and peace. Be confident in your salvation.

Jeez I looked it up and read that it's speaking evil of God which I don't think I've ever done but I think what if I accidentally think of something like that what if that means I am unforgiven or what if I have done it but I don't remember. It's making me panic again :(

Hi.

I have many of these thoughts daily.

I would guess that you have a at least some form of OCD. OCD is not logical. No matter how much evidence you give to try to silence it, it just keeps making you doubt.

I know for a fact that God forgives ALL sins (Psalm 103:3). The Bible says "Whosoever believes will not perish" (John 3:16). However, even in full knowledge of the many verses like these, I still have thoughts like these. Why? OCD is simply just illogical and foolish. It denies all reason and just exploits your fears.

Thanks that helps but I can't seem to fully shake off the panic and obsessive thoughts. I keep thinking "what if I did do something unforgivable" or "what if I will do something unforgivable" and it's driving me nuts :(

I understand completely what it's like.

Sometimes I want to give up, sometimes I feel despair, sometimes I feel just pure frustration.
