• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi Everyone,
I am at the point with my arthritis and other body aches where I must see a pain management specialist. I have had serious body aches for months. It was one of the contributing factors to my drinking in October. The alcohol took away the physical pain.

I am not allowed to take anti-inflammatories because of a history of bleeding ulcers, and having had gastric bypass surgery. Tylenol does not make a dent in the pain. I am waiting to call a pain management specialist on Thursday and hopefully get an appointment soon. I am in serious pain, it is really difficult to sleep at night.

Tonight I was sorely tempted to pick up a bottle of wine on the way home from work, just to ease the pain. I am almost at the point where I am desperate for relief.

Please pray for me.

Trish

I had an MRI done today, so I will call the Pain Management Specialist on Friday to schedule an appointment. I am also changing orthopedists, as the one who evaluated me after Easter does not have decent hours for working folks like me. Plus, I am having more pain now than I did back on Easter when I went to the ER.

I have been to two AA meetings in the past two days, both at 6:00 a.m. That is my favorite meeting, as the recovery there is serious. Nobody goes to a meeting that early to play around with the program. We usually get 20 to 30 people there during the work week, and more on Saturday.

I went to group last night and had a good session there. I was asked if I had any problem at the Phillies game on Sunday with the beer being sold there, especially because my son and a friend were drinking. They did not get drunk, and they all know I am seriously in recovery and it was not a thought whether to drink or not. Besides, I tried beer since my gastric bypass, and it is not fun. I can't drink enough to get drunk, and it makes me sick. Wine is my preference, as I love the taste and how it feels. So, my group therapist asked if being successful in going to the ballgame means I can be around alcohol, and I automatically said, "No, I know I can't go around alcohol on a regular basis at all. I am safe when I am with my kids or family, especially at places I never drank to begin with."

So, I just wanted to update on my body aches and efforts to get help.

Hugs,
Trish

Keep on hangin' on. 6AM meeting? You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!

There was a time I could've used a 9AM meeting. I was working a midnight shift, getting off at 8AM; but there was nothing until late afternoons, when I had to be asleep. Even if there had been morning meetings, showing up in a state corrections uniform might've put a damper on the proceedings.

I like those 6:00 am meetings, but it is the same time I get my boys ready for school.
It a great way to get your day started. The Friday 5:30 pm meetings are packed, I like that one.

I had an MRI done and found arthritis in my neck last month. I am glad you are going to a pain management person.

Have you tried heat, and perhaps a soothing warm bath after you get home from work.
Drink tons of water. My doc gave me some Alieve, but I don't like taking anything like that.
My doc also gave me a name for a book, for pain management ( he knows my history) if you want I will get the name of it.

I would love the name of the book. I am trying some meditation with a visualization exercise my therapist gave me.

I cannot take Aleve, or Advil, because I have had gastric bypass surgery and bleeding ulcers before and after the surgery. Tylenol is the only over the counter med I can take.

Tonight I really, really want to numb the pain in the worst way.

Thanks,
Trish
