In Lancaster County Pennsylvania this afternoon, a tragedy unfolded. Nickel Mines, PA is a quiet, peaceful, picture perfect Amish town. In a tiny little schoolhouse with endless fields of farm lands surrounding it, a monster all of 32 years old with no ties to the Amish at all stormed upon a classroom full of young children and teachers. After sending everyone out except for one teacher's aid and two young girls he executed them by lining them against a wall, tying their legs together and shooting them in the heads; point blank.

No excuse. If there were by any means a range where each school shooting could be judged, no one deserved it less than these kids. The children in Amish families know nothing of violence. No movies, TV or video games. No perverted magazines or books. They never even spoke back to their parents. Those... "picture perfect kids" every parent wants. Never to speak unless spoken to... perfectly happy in their simple, God-fearing lives. And to be stormed upon by a mad man weilding a weapon they've never heard of, let alone seen... pointing it to their heads.... and firing. No security, no protection and most of all totally unexpected.

I'm not saying that any child deserves anything like this.... not by any means... what I am saying is these kids could not even imagine it.... let alone live it. A pure living hell.

Just keep them in your prayers.:groupray: :groupray:

BUMP... Hmm, funny how we can debate ethics, moralism, war, Bush, Saddam, 9/11 and the whole nine, but very few views have passed by about the deaths of these people... not appealing? Or am I reading into why no one's posted?

What is there to say? A product of our sick society kills five Amish children. So much needs to be said that I have been struck dumb.

I too, think it is so worse in this case because these children were so, so innocent. The Amish are a very peaceful people, and like you said, these babies were so sheltered from all of the ugliness of this awful world... then to have the ugly world just intrude upon them like this... its terrible. Also, they were so young, they usually only go to school until the 8th grade, so most all of these were very small children. Usually, we see this in a high school, which is horrible too, dont get me wrong, but there were tiny little kids here! Most kids see all kinds of violence on tv and in video games, they are quite familliar with guns. Not these kids.

I think the forgiveness shown by these Amish people is so amazing. How many of us would be so quick to forgive something like this? I have to totally respect and admire the strength and wisdom God has given them. I feel so terrible for them. And the kids that werent hurt, how afraid they must be to go back to school!

In some way, this may be easier for these people than for the parents and survivors of other school shootings because of their faith and devotion to God, and for their incredibly strong family ties. They have a much greater support system than the others: God and each other.

I think we should all say a prayer for these families, and for the living children as well.
