  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

can you hold to Covenant Theology and not be paedobaptist? (honest question)

My honest answer (though my Baptists friends will disagree) is NO. You can not really hold to Covenant theology and deny paedobaptism.

You can hold to a truncated version of it, but it falls short of Reformed/Covenant theology because the Covenant is to you and to your house/seed/children and therefore the members of the house/children should recieve the sign of the Covenant (i.e. baptism).

Coram Deo,
Kenith

I would have to say yes, you can (though I'm a paedobaptist).

I think the London Confession reflects Covenant Theology with a believer-only baptist view of church polity.

It is not classically Reformed theology, though.

Well, here's your Baptist friend to disagree with you. My church is Reformed and our preaching pastor believes in Covenant Theology, and we do not believe in paedobaptism.

I think that you can but not consistently, I do think it is impossible to be truly Reformed and a credobaptist. Paedobaptism is the logical outcome of the covenant. Although I will allow my baptist brethren to disagree.:)
