Hello folks. Looks like November will be when one of my sci-fi plots might come together. This plot is about how the Xa'na race on planet Xanadu discover that the atmosphere of Xanadu is failing, after the country of Mindekowa launched a satellite to orbit Xanadu's polar regions. This is over a century before the Xa'na develop faster-than-light space travel, so there is no way for the Xa'na to evacuate their home world. Xa'na rockets in the 20th century are powered by methane or hydrogen. Notice how the satellite in this timeline section was launched in 1951? Humans did not launch the first satellite until 1957 with Sputnik, and the first climate satellites were not launched until the 1970s on Earth. In other words, the Xa'na have tech about two decades ahead of humans.
The atmosphere of Xa'na is nearly completely destroyed by 2024-2025. In real life, humans solved the ozone layer crisis in the 1980s with the Montreal Protocol in 1987. The Xa'na had a protocol for refrigerants and never used CFCs, but the Xa'na never had a protocol for nitrogen dioxide emissions until the early 21st century. So, find out later what happens to the Xa'na. Most life above a 4000 ft (1200 m) elevation died by the late-2010s on Xanadu.
