• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What did these people as individuals accomplish before they joined OWS?
Devon Balkind, 25, Occupation: Open-source everything
Days at protest: "Since day one."
What brings you here? "This is the platform for the new paradigm."
Do you have a message? “We’re all in this together. We’re getting screwed by our inability to be honest.”

Nicolas Isabella, 24, Meteorologist
Days at protest: Five.
What brings you here? “I heard about it on the news, and saw that this was a whole new mindset. I give up to date weather reports for protestors on my Twitter: @occupywallstwx.
Do you have a message? “Rain, sleet, snow, hell no, we won’t go.”

Rae, 24, Artist and retail worker
First day at protests.
What brings you here? “I don’t have a financial future set up for me by any institution. Not the banks, not the colleges, not Wall Street. At this point I don’t feel comfortable trying to start a family here.”
Do you have a message?: “To the NYPD and the protestors: There’s a lot of tension on both sides, and a lot of hating. It’s wrong to dehumanize either side, to judge anyone based on political beliefs. They (the NYPD) are people too.”

Of 21 comments thus far, we have half of one  that makes some sense.

Notice the ages: 20's & 30's mostly, & mostly the product
of our wonderful Public schools Social Studies curriculums.
Meaning, instead of being able to actually contribute...
we have this ^ representative sample of the population.

During the 1960's, US-citizens were MUCH better off, in almost every way.

I picked some of the more "choice" ones I found out of the fifty people they interviewed.

I was touched by Russel Delacruz's comment - "This will add up:" (somehow)

"We’re getting screwed by our inability to be honest."
“Rain, sleet, snow, hell no, we won’t go.”
“Support local business, don’t go to WalMart.”
“I came here to eat.”
“Kill your television.”
“I want to be excited.”
"We want to be left alone.”
“I would like to see us manifest some positivity.”
“All you need is love.”
“I want a horizontal-directed democracy.”
"I was trying to buy some of the art here, but they say they don’t know how to facilitate the selling of it."
“I hate when people ask what are these protesters demands. As if they would be listened to!”

Apparently it "adds up" to this:

Do you have a message?: “No.” :)

As opposed to being home schooled, unable to correctly format their written work and displaying a distinct lack of knowledge about most subjects.

There are papers written about why this is important. You should probably go read some instead of sitting here pretending that 'free markets' exist and that Obamacare is socialism.
Is that what my posts in this thread are doing - "pretending free markets exist and that Obamacare is socialism?" :)

Maybe I *should* find one of those "papers." Anything that can attach import to messages like
"We’re getting screwed by our inability to be honest."
“Rain, sleet, snow, hell no, we won’t go.”
“Support local business, don’t go to WalMart.”

...has GOT to be as entertaining as the messages themselves are.

I am really no fan of the OWS movement at all. I understand where they are coming from but being unemployed, lacking personal hygeine and just protesting in city parks day and night is certainly not the way to go about it. Not to mention all of the violence that has come where the OWS is present does nothing to help the movement at all. The Tea Party I am not a terribly big fan of but I do respect this movement. This appears to be a movement by mature, hard working and responsible adults who are unhappy with the direction the country is going. I disagree with them on many things(gay marriage, marijuana legalization, abortion, etc) just from what I have seen. I am in no way saying they are all like that but you get the idea.

I'm guessing an important majority are still a lot more educated than the average person.
Maybe it's just me, but I would think the average person is educated enough to know better than to defecate on a police car

Those who do it don't know they're "defecating" - they think they're "pooping."
