I have daily readings that include a bit of OT and a bit of NT. Obviously, the NT is over a very short time span, but if you included the history of the Church since NT times, the occurence of 'national' miracles seems heavily sided in OT times. By 'national' miracles, I mean those that pertained to the whole of Israel (all that happened in the Exodus, trumpets of Jericho, etc).
My knowledge of the Bible and Church history is far from complete, so please feel free to correct me or qualify my statements.
It seems that the nation of Israel was child-like in OT times, since they were relatively small and powerless, heavily relying on God's provision and protection in order to simply survive. But, from the NT forward, the miracles seem to be on a personal level, more focused on adding to the kingdom of God on Earth, rather than physically protecting it.
My thought is that the church universal is no longer a child that needs physical protection and food (of course there are individuals in need, but I'm talking about the existence of Christians as a whole). Acknowleding that all miracles are primarily to show God's glory, is the secondary purpose now moving towards unifying and edifying the church? Is the church being taught as an adolescent that has the ability but not the focus or drive?
Any feedback or thoughts are appreciated!
