Overcoming sin

I know where it leaves me

Sad and dirty

Sometimes I dont even know how God can forgive me so many times

His mercy is amaizing

Yeah I know how you feel. But seriously since I put in this post I have been hearing teachings on this stuff from all directions and it has all been very useful. There was one thing I heard a preacher saying (think it might have been Creflo) and he showed one passage where it says forgive 70 times 7 which is like 490 times but then somewhere else where it says forgive 70 times 7 in a day and he worked out well that is 490 times a day and then for the week and a year. I suddenly didn't feel so dirty any more and felt that indeed I could and had been forgiven

What do you do when there is a sin in your life and you just can't seem to get a handle on it.
I'm sure we have all been there - so where does that leave us.

IF YOUR STRUGGLING WITH SIN, YOU SHOULD LOOK AT THE CONSEQUENCES THAT ARE CAUSED BY THIS AND OTHER SIN.

IF YOU REALISE THE EFFECT IT IS HAVING ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST THIS SHOULD SPURN YOU TO STOP.

COMPARE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST TO SOMEONE YOU CONSIDER CLOSE TO GOD.

IF YOU NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOURSELF AND THIS PERSONS RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST, YOU NEED TO REALISE THAT THIS PERSONS RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST WAS BUILT BY DRAWING NEAR TO HIM.

THE BIBLE STATES THAT IF WE DRAW NEAR TO CHRIST HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO US.

I PRAY THAT YOUR EYES WILL BE OPENED AND THAT YOU WILL USE SELF CONTROL TO START TO RESIST TEMPTATION SO THAT YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST WILL GROW TO THE POINT WHERE THIS STAGE IN YOUR WALK WILL SEEM LIKE A BLIP IN THE REARVIEW MIRROR.

I know exactly what it is doing to my relationship with Christ! That is why I so desperately want to be in control over sin in my life. It is not however enough to sotp sinning.

The Bible does not say that we should compare ourselves with each other in order to judge the closeness of our own relationship with Christ.

How would we judge whether Foadle, Kemmer, myself, or anyone else was the closest to God?
The truth is we cannot, and anyway it’s none of our business.

The relationship Foadle has with Christ is secure and upheld by Him, and is no less for the fact that she admits to a struggle. NO LESS!
She is in Christ; she can be no closer than that!

Just keep gazing upon the lovely face of Jesus, dear Foadle.
He is victorious in your life, He is leading the way, He is revealing more and more to you, and it is His love for you that will free you.

Meanwhile you do remain in Him, that is a fact, and you are clothed in His righteousness, so be at peace.

I have been finding just that. In the past when I thought I had beaten this area of sin I somehow knew that it would be just a matter of time before it arose again. Something over the past week has changed in me though. I can't really say what but that I am certain it has been brought on by my fellowship here. This time I am not trying to overcome the sin. My whole outlook on life has changed and though it be only a bit over a week sins last I fought with this and lost somehow I "Know in my knower" (as Creflo says) that this is beaten and I didn't have to do anything in that process. For the first time in decades I can say it is not a concern.
In fact I was in a position just the other day that would have had me falling back into the same area of sin that has been dragging me down. And you know what it didn't even cross my mind until a couple of days later what had happened. How good is God?

The context in which you raised that issue was different - you were speaking of comparing ourselves with each other in order to decide who was a "better" Christian.

The scripture you are using here is not connected with that matter, and to get into a debate about church discipline would divert this thread from the OP.

You could start that as a new discussion on the SFPC forum though, might be interesting!

How would you say that Matthew 7:1 Judge not that you be judged.
I do not fall under your judgement or that of any man that I need to concern myself with but under the judgement of Jesus Christ and to him and him only am I fully answerable to. It is for him to decide the "measure of Christianity" you appear to allude to not any person here on earth.
