Hi everyone. I would like to get your opinions on how I should get help for something I’m struggling with.

I’ve struggled with a few things in my life off and on for several years. I became a Christian hoping to overcome these struggles. Things haven’t seemed to ever work out like I hoped so I’m still struggling. Today I’m just wore out mentally from trying to process my life. I need some kind of help for direction in life. I’m not sure if I should go see a professional counseling or my church also has an unofficial not professional counselling program. I have benefits through work where a professional would be covered, but my churches one is free. I’m also not sure if I should just skip the counseling and go see my doctor for medication. Hopefully this makes a bit of sense and maybe some of you have more experience with what direction I should go in. Thank you for the help!

Struggles don't go away when you become a Christian. Struggles are part of being a Christian. They are one of the tools God uses to help you grow. Know that He is with you. Listen to His voice. Follow His direction.

I know that's easier said than done...

I would start with the counseling at church. Sometimes sitting and talking with another believer is precisely the way to hear the voice of God.

I have an idea I for something you can consider trying.

Find some activity you can do that does not benefit you in any way, but does benefit something or someone else. Find a food bank, homeless ministry, animal rescue, senior home...anything and just go and give of yourself. Do anything they ask of you without complaint or hope of reward. Do it more than once. If you can, make a habit out of it. Make it a part of your schedule. Never, ever, ever skip or miss once you've committed to it, no matter how good the excuse or how crappy you feel.

Real servanthood can heal you in ways you can't imagine and wouldn't expect.

I hope and pray you find Peace.

Serving others is a great idea.
Check out your church's counseling program too.

Also, join prayer circles with others with similar problems.

Seek to educate yourself in the areas of struggle too.

Never hurts to see professionals like Doctors.

Identify triggers that led towards sin and avoid them.

Things haven’t seemed to ever work out like I hoped so I’m still struggling.
So, trust God about this.

"casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

I’m not sure if I should go see a professional counseling or my church also has an unofficial not professional counselling program. I have benefits through work where a professional would be covered, but my churches one is free. I’m also not sure if I should just skip the counseling and go see my doctor for medication.
I am concerned and curious if you personally are sharing with anyone who is a mature Christian and who helps you. And how big is your church, and have you personally shared with and started to get to know your pastor?? It sounds as though you don't really know what your church has to offer. So, I would say get to know some people who are good examples for you.

And if you have a real pastor, any sermon can help you with your struggles. Listen and apply whatever your pastor says in a sermon, because that sermon has been prepared prayerfully to bless and help anyone; God is able to use anything which is His message > somehow, directly or indirectly. Plus, any scripture in the Bible can be used by God to help you in some way. So, are you reading and feeding on God's word??

I do not mean to speak against doctors or medications or professional counseling. These can be used by God. But we do need our personal role models and God's word and whatever God is providing for sermons for His people > you are included in who God cares about and is providing for. But we need to be able to benefit from it. So, if we are not, we need to trust God to correct us and make us more able to receive all the good He has for us.

So - - - God bless you :)

Renew your mind with the Word of God. The help is there. It's fine to talk to others, but start saying and agreeing with what God says about you in His Word.

1 Cor 10:13: No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Little children, you are of God, and have overcome them; for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
