Another episode is going to air in about a half-hour after I post this, so I'm wondering if any of you are watching it? FX is known for pushing the envelope as far as language goes, I had the Army experience and swear a lot myself, but even I was taken aback by the amount of dialogue that could have been excised IMO.

That said, it's a very moving and intense show. The episode I saw really captured the gritty (literally) reality the war in Iraq. I was opposed to the war, but support the troops and watching a dramatization of the daily reality out men and women are facing over there makes me appreciate their experiences and sacrifices all the more.

I thought it was good, though I thought the cliche of the racist black soldier hating white people and arabs was overdone....I mean honestly, does every single war movie/show have to have some racist black guy?

Some of the characters border on cliches, but no more so than WWII movies where you always had a bumbling Lieutenant with his heart in the right place, but his tactics all wrong, a heart of gold hardbutt Sergeant who connects with a scared private right before a pivotal battle or the requisite Michael "Sully" O'Sullivan/Antonio "Tony" Carpacci characters.

The nerdy white guy with the glasses (I forget the character's name) smacks of David Webster from Band of Brothers in many ways.

As I said in the OP, the language and content might offend, but it's quite realistic (apart from the stereotypical parts IP noted) of how military people are, and I can only assume vicariously as someone who wore a uniform, but never saw battle, as to how my fellow soldiers would have acted and reacted. If you get FX, check out at least on of the episodes.
