I would like some advice on how to choose a church and commit as an older (61) uneducated Christian. I have left churches when I was younger because after listening to some inspiring preaching only to find the flag or politics are more important and then I'm out. I have changed my personal life and have begun to read my bible regularly (still havent got to the new testament) enjoying the private changes I have made and still working on more but I know fellowship is important so I have been checking out some local churches and still on the fence. Any advice ?

Someone who preaches the Bible, The whole counsel of God is very important. Line upon line, precept upon precept, you will find much for your life. Maybe a Calvary chapel?

I don't have much advice other than to search for churches near you and look at their statement of faith.

But I a very happy at what God is doing in your life!

Ask God to help you find the right church for you. That's worked for me. I attend a church that's been around for a long time and has a small congregation of older folks. Politics is only emphasized in being encouraged to pray for the nation and what's going in general. Although I suppose that sort thing might differ depending on what part of the country you're in.

When I left a cult at age 31, I had no idea which church I should attend. I agree that you should ask to read their statement of faith. They should, of course, have some older members. Pray for God to guide you.

Congrats on coming back to God. Since you had some bad discernment in the past, I pray it is not an issue in you finding a good fellowship in your area. If it were me I would check online first to get some samples of the sermons. I would probably suggest you stay mainstream to avoid, universal salvation, dogmatic doctrine that thinks only their denomination goes to heaven. If you are conservative then Southern Baptist or Assembly of God might be a good fit. I would check for sermons online and statements of beliefs as another suggested too. God bless you in fidning you a palce to fellowship and grow.
