  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Outlook Express

I have been having problems with Outlook express, when I get an email with an attachment I get the following message

" oe removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: then it gives the title of the attachment"

At first I just assumed that is was a corupte file, but I have noticed that all my attachments now have the above statement.

Does anyone know how to either change a setting or something that I will be able to access future attachments

Thankyou in advance

Yes, but on the other hand, it can be a useful feature!
DON'T open attachments when you don't know what they are, even if they are from a friend! Ask them first and make sure it was them that send it and not a worm trying to spread itself.

Usefull feature?

Not really - even when you've asked someone to send you a file and you have that option linked - you won't be able to open the file at all - even though it doesn't have a virus.

That's what Norton checks for.

For OE, which is the sole cause of perhaps five billion dollars of damage due to viruses since it came out, yes, it's a useful feature. Every time a new virus comes up, OE is vulnerable, and antivirus software won't defend against it until it's been diagnosed - generally after a few million copies have spread.

In other mailers, which don't have these laughable security problems, you can just open attachments, but frankly, the chances are that opening attachments in OE will eventually result in distribution of viruses to hundreds of people. It is not a good idea.
