Personally, I don't see a "bloody body" on the crucifix. I see the single greatest act of love ever committed in all creation. I see that moment in history where the full glory of God is truly revealed to us.

Sure that's what I see as well and I believe Crosswise does as well. But many other's don't. I know that some view it in terms of this. If Christ is still on the cross then you must believe that he hasn't been taken down and been resurrected. This is how some American Evangelicals see Catholics because they use the Crucifix and not the empty cross.

I was given a crucifix for my confirmation and it was from a Catholic relative. I still have it somewhere.

If you want to represent Easter, it's an empty TOMB you should want -- not an empty cross.

But an empty tomb is so much harder to make a lapel pin out of... and historical and traditional Christianity has made the cross the number 1 symbol of Christianity worldwide, not the tomb.... no need to go confusing all those non-Christians even more.

An empty cross works well for those capable of thinking beyond that point in the timeline (I personally like the added symbolism of the cross with the rays of light shining behind it, signifying the Resurrection mor clearly in symbol). In fact, so does a manger with a baby in it... and so does a crucifix. So would a picture of Jesus in the Jordan River.

Can't this just be a personal preference thing without having to go in circles with rants denouncing everyone else's personal opinions on something that's really completely pointless anyway? They're just symbols, after all (which means they are not to be confused with things like, for example, Confession & Absolution, Communion, Baptism...)

So am I, now that my PDF reader is acting strangely and very slow... if it decides to work at all on that particular day.

When you are on line, open up a PDF file, and look on your tool bar to see if you have an option of checking for updates. I have gotten several but I'm not sure how I got them. I think I was just reading a PDF file and it asked me if I wanted the available updates. I'm not real slick with computor stuff, maybe someone who is can help?

Getting back to the original thread, there are lots of subtle differences. For example, I note that in the confession of sins, we Lutherans will say, "...we are in bondage to sin, and cannot free ourselves." That is about as purely a Lutheran statement as you can find, and might even be out of Luther's, "The Bondage of the Will." I've been to lots of RCC masses, and have never heard anything quite like that.

On the flip side, in most of the Catholic masses I've attended, there is a petition (perhaps near the general confession) to Mary to pray for us. I will admit that even if one walks the fine line of intercessory requests vs. actual faith in the saint stuff, I cannot bring myself to participate. It gives me the willies!

If somebody really wanted to get into the weeds on the Lutheran liturgy, you could read "Concerning the Order of Public Worship," and "An Order of Mass and Communion for the Church at Wittenberg." Luther wrote both of these in 1523. Ever since I read them, I found a new appreciation and understanding of both my Lutheran liturgy, and my wife's Catholic liturgy.

I agree, and as for saintly intercessions, I will eventually post something I am preparing that may be useful in understanding (for non-Protestants) why praying to Saints is a dangerous practice.

I was wondering if there are any good links that are not PDF?

The best way to read a PDF link is to right-click on the link and click "Save Target As" and save the file to your desktop or wherever. Then you can open it directly from your own drive rather than trying to open it online. That seems to cause more problems than its worth.
When you're done with it, just delete it.
