  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Personally, I think we have so many distractions now that act as distractions from our prayer life, studying of the Word, worship, fasting, and even just giving Him the time of day.

We become entangled with worldly things, and too often let our spirits starve while we feed the flesh.

If I keep my mind on Christ, I do not struggle with him because I am walking and fellowshipping with him. But if I allow myself to neglect him for a week; a moment of clarity will hit me, and I'm ashamed. That's when I struggle with a war between my flesh and my spirit. I must put the flesh down and repent.

But that doesn't really sound like contending with God either, does it?

Hmm.

We are often our worst enemies. We can often be harder on ourselves than we would be anyone else. We deplete ourselves by taking care of others & forget
we need to take care of ourselves as WELL as others.

Joyce Meyer's best selling book is "Battlefield of the Mind" & graciously points
out that MANY of our struggles are just that in our mind.

We just need to be gentler with ourselves sometimes. JMHO

We forget to "Let go and Let God" Our first priority is to Love, and our second to Accept. When we learn to accept the world and others around us (Instead of trying to control and change it) we can let go of all of our neurosis which cause such conflict.

Im not sure if accept is the right word but love surely applies.

Why is it that most of our struggles are with ourselves, with others and not with God?

well God is for us, not against us, so how could our struggles ever be with him? The problems can only be ours.

I think Accepting God comes with Love, and I found this wording that I liked as well

Egoism (self-importance) leads to desire, craving, and attachments, which can lead to unwholesome thoughts and behavior, i.e., greed, hate, and violence. When we learn to put Ego aside, learning to acept the world around us, we live in peace and harmony free of conflict. If we do that.... Of course, for most people, that is a very big IF

I thought you meant accepting other peoples actions. We should reprove works of the flesh in a loving manner.

I see your point but I think its just the opposite. Most people struggle with God instead of themselves. Meaning they blame God for everything and don't take responsibility themselves for stuff they do.

Dear rmore1021. I believe when Jesus told the Lawyer: in Matthew, chapter 22, verses 35-40: " Love thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, And Love thy neighbour as thyself," Jesus was making it easy for us to understand and to remember. We all know what it means to love and to care, Paul tells us very explicit in 1) Corinthians, chapter 13, verses 4-8. Love is not only a great and wonderful feeling, it also means to speak friendly and encouraging words, to show interest and be forgiving rather than short and fault-finding. Jesus told us to " ask and receive," and He will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will give us His Love, too, for us to share with our neighbour. ( all we know and meet, friends or not friends) God will see our sincere efforts, and God will approve and bless us, and we will be showing our great Love to God, by following His Commandments to Love. We will stumble and fail often, but God has promised us to forgive as we forgive all others, ( If we ask for it.) Love is a great Help and Solace, and Love will overcome all obstacles and unloving traits and mean behaviour. We are also given much time to learn, and once we truly start to love without any conditions asked, we will find: Love is catching and growing rapidly. ( if we let it) I say this with love, rmore. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ. Jesus has also stated the fact: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
