This is our rented space. We have recently bought 7 acres just a couple of miles north, and should start building our permanent temple soon.

Both of these were taken on Palm Sunday of 2005. The church has since received a new coat of paint on the outside.

Very interesting Mary~I didn't know you lived in Plano :) That's my hometown, and despite all of the yuppies and construction I still sometimes miss it! Is St. Sava's current location by that Sam's Club by Central Expressway (w/ Super Walmart on the other side)? I once visited St. Sava when it was a mission in a small rented strip mall place. This brings back memories!

I don't actually live in Plano - I live a suburb or two to the south. :)

St Sava's is just south of Sam's, down Spring Creek. We just bought land at Jupiter and Chaparral on the border of Plano and Allen.

Come and visit us sometime. We've grown and changed quite a lot since we were in that strip mall. New young priest, lots of new families. There's a wonderful feeling of Christian community there. :)

Beautiful, Tawny!

Is that a rood screen in front of the altar? I've always wondered what they look like - it looks like an iconostas without the icons.

And what are the decorated things on the pews?

Mary

Yes the Rood Screen is the big wooden thing in the middle, originally it had an image of Christ on the Cross but that was removed during the reformation. The decorated things on the pews are the kneelers, they are put up there when the church is not being used, when we go in on a Sunday Morning, we put them on the floor.

Hope that helps :)
