  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Has anyone seen this movie yet? My husband and I rented it last night and it was a vey disturbing movie of a true story regarding Catholic priests that were homosexual & pedaphiles. They sexually abused young boys at pre-puberty ages. It happened in Massachussetts in the mid 60s and news came about about this all over our country and world around 2002.

What really was discouraging about this movie was the coverup by the Pope & Cardinal by trying to bribe the Plaintiffs with money to quiet them. That was unbelievable! Hearing Bishops and priests curse in the movie and playing corporate politics was a real eye-opener!! It just shows that ugly politics and greed is everywhere, not just outside of churches. At the end, the movie had notes about how the Vatican proposed a one-strike rule but still that rule has never been enforced to this day.

Back then, homosexuals who were pedophiles were allowed to practice priesthood and were protected or just moved from church to church as they got caught. There has been numerous of trials since then and so far, the Vatican has paid out over $85 million to the abused victims from court settlements.

My husband and I were talking about it this morning and we wonder how many more victims are there in other denominations that could also be affected. It is just so sad. I would like everyone to join me in praying for those victims all over the world who were abused from the the religious ministries.

As believers of God, all of us need to be extremely cautious and proactive to deal with the sins around us and do our part to protect the innocence of our children in the world. :preach:

Dear heartnsoul, Haven't seen the movie...but you are surely right in that the sins mentioned including the cover-ups are unconscionable. So many innocents harmed and so many families devastated. However, I think the various dioceses are the ones who pay out the court settlements and several have gone bankrupt these past years.

Pedophilia is a serious problem in many areas...including teachers in public and private schools sometimes. Many years ago...one of my fellow teachers was arrested on eleven counts and sent to prison for 20 years. He was out in three. The judge banned him from ever teaching again. As far as I know he did not continue to abuse children...but that is the exception rather than the rule in these cases...offenders often repeat the behavior.

It seems the child abusers use their postions to win the trust of the children and parents as well.

Having grandchildren I pray for their protection from predators often, and will join you in prayer today. :groupray: Thanks for posting this. Am sharing the scripture below...

.. but Jesus said, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven." [RSV] Matthew 19:14
