Hello everyone, I am a Christian blogger (you can find the link in my profile), and I just wanted to take some time to share one with you today and become more active in this site.
I hope you enjoy and I love conversation and discussion, so feel free to leave a comment!
There are a lot of ideas of what a Christian is, who they are, and what they do. There also are a lot of things that Christians aren’t which also suggest a relationship with the Lord.
Here are 5 signs that someone is most likely a Christian, and bible verses to back them up:
5.) They know they are not perfect
This one took me a while to truly take hold of. I just recently made the decision to be baptized; which a decision that is long overdue. I thought that I needed to be a “better” Chrisitan so that I could be baptized.
Recently, I learned that it’s through knowing we are not perfect and that we need a relationship with God to one day be with him.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” – Romans 3:23 ESV
4.) They love others as themselves
God has shown the sinners of the world truly unconditional love. Wouldn’t it be great if someone was always there for you, and would love you no matter what, and would always be there to provide hope when there is none? That’s God and his love.
True Christians understand that they sin just as much as those around them. No one is above anyone else. To God, sin is a sin, whether you lie, cheat, steal or even commit adultery. It is all looked at the same. This is not meant to scare, as all sin can be forgiven, all one must do is ask. It is to show that everyone sins and that a Christian must not be prideful and must be willing to help others before themselves.
“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” – 1 John 4:7-8 ESV
3.) They make mistakes and will be the first to admit it
Christians are called not to judge, but to encourage:
“How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” – Matthew 7:3-5 (NIV)
How can someone, not worthy of reaching Heaven on their own, judge someone else and decide whether the other person is? God tells us to, “Love one another. As I have loved you.” – John 13:34 (NIV).
2.) They don’t think they are better than anyone else
God calls Christians to put others first. When an individual is saved, they are given the greatest gift one on Earth can receive. Next, as Christians, we are called to go out into the world and “share the good news.”
Putting others first means having humility and patience. We are lucky enough to know what happens after we pass from this world, and we need to put others first and encourage them so that someday they might know the same as we do.
“So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” – Matthew 20:16 (NIV)
1.) They let God be in control
Personally, this one was hard for me to grasp, and I wish someone had told me sooner. Sometimes, we can feel disconnected from God, especially in moments of weakness and desperation. How this aspect of Christiantianity was finally described to me allowed me to truly understand what this means.
I am in a men’s group and this is how this idea was described by the group leader:
“The only thing in this world you can control is yourself. You can only control how you act and react. In the moments where it feels like you are losing control of the situation you are in. Giving that over Gods means you take your actions by the reigns and only focus on controlling them in a Godly manner.”
This has changed my life dramatically. I trust God to figure out the details why I only worry about ensuring I respond and act in a Godly way. I’m not perfect though and I still fall short. But overall, this has been a life changer.
Have you met someone with or without some of these characteristics? What was it like communicating with that individual? Let me know in the comments.
Thank you for reading!
