 As some of you may know from some of my posts I was raised cathloic, saved by charasmatic christians and baptised by pentacostals so I know a little about all these denominations; My question is, last week at church,(I am now attending a baptist church) the pastor was speaking on gifts, and he said the gifts of healing(laying on of hands) and speaking in tongues were for the apostles in that day and are no longer viable gifts, I do not understand how only part of the gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians can be "used". I personally recieved the gift of tongues when I was baptised, but I didn't ask for the gift, so I know its real, and I have seen healing with my own eyes so I know that it is real also so how can we decide that some gifts just don't exist these days?I am just curious if am wrong to accept that All Gods gifts are still useful today.........

NO, they are not and were not only for the apostles. YES YES YES teh gifts are STILL in use, lol. Hmm i htink i'll have to find this scripture some time.....I think it says, when we ask God for the holy spirit and after that ask for babtism in teh holy spirit then we get our gifts. Thats why they are called gifts......gifts from God to use for HIS glory in HIS name.

God Bless,
AB

1 cor 13 at the end of the " Love Chapter " , that we will hear in part , know in part [ here and now ] and then face to face ...

some teach this as evidence that the gifts of 1 Cor 12 ended with the 12 and the church fathers , but contradicts what is spoken in Mark 16 about beilievers , Mark 24 speaking to mountain , 1 John 5.14 about faith and word , the Ministry of the Holy Spirit ...

when we get to heaven we will no longer need the gifts , no longer be a devil , evil , or need for gifts [ face to face ]

Molly, all God's gifts are for today. Consider though, that you may want to ask God if there is another church He may want you to attend that believes that too. You need to grow toward not away.

Be blessed,

Quaffer

Molly,

Get the heck out of that church!

Nah, just kidding somewhat. :)

There are a few demoninations that don't believe in the gifts of the Spirit -- ie no the gifts are not longer relevant today. They are called "cessationists". Even if they see the crippled walk they'd probably attribute the work of the Spirit to science/nature, 'mind over matter', or worse, a demon.

You really should attend another church. :)

When in doubt check scripture always, even if the Apostle Paul was to speak to you.

ACTS 17:11
Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

 To all of you who have answered this post, thank you, I would like to go to another church, however God has put me in this church, everytime I try to leave something always stops me, I have been put in a position where I can bring several young people, and the church is good at getting people saved it's where they go from there that I was concerned about. I think the Lord has a reason for my being there, I'm just not exactly sure what yet. 2 of my 3 sons recently got saved and baptised there, so I guess thats a start, however I do tell them what I believe and I just pray they will be open minded enough to accept the truth when they are given it. again thanks for your input.

Hi Molly. I was raised in the So. Baptist church, and baptised there. I'll agree with the other poster that said, "get out of there", haha, but I don't think I'm kidding, .Don't get me wrong. The Baptists, bless their hearts, are BIG on salvation, but after that, I was STARVING spiritually. They served their purpose in my life for the time.
After my mom passed away, the Lord led me and my sister to the Assemblies of God denomination. That is where we learned about what else God had for us, besides just going and hearing the same salvation sermon, sing, Just As I Am for alter call, and go home,. After hearing what was being preached at the Assemblies of God, and seeing that all of this was in the Word, I was TRUELY born again!!!
My advice to you would be, pray about it first, and if you still feel like something is missing, then God is telling you to run for the nearest exit. Blessings, Karla
P.S. I could never go to another Baptist church, unless God was going to use me somehow to wake them up, ROFL.

I'm the sister of "By His Grace" who posted. I have to say that I think without the Baptist's preaching of the Gospel of Salvation we certainly wouldn't have as many people in the Kingdom of Heaven. They certainly have the plan of salvation down pat. And that's where everyone has to start. Getting your soul saved is the most important message anyone could hear. After saying that, it is my greatest hope that someday the Baptists will have their spiritual eyes opened concerning the Gifts and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. And many of them are. I also had to go to a church that preached these things, and I received. All my children were saved in the Baptist church. They heard the message. But now, they are filled with the Holy Spirit. And they also made the same choice to go where these things are taught. But if you feel led to stay, then you must obey the Lords leading in the matter. They certainly preach the message that every unsaved person needs to hear. Just dont let anyone try to take from you what you know that you have received.

Molly, seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
He was sent, among other things, to be our councellor and Guid.
I attend a Methodist church which, while not opposed to the gifts, is only passively tolerant. However, I feel that is where I am called to be as a light shining in dark place. If I was not there who would?
