OSB here!

I'm excited and I am glad to see that so many people are ordering them so that the hard intense work of these wonderful people doesn't go unnoticed. However, there were many legitimate criticisms and concerns about the NT version of the OSB (copping out in some situations and offering dubious explanations that did not always line up with mainstream Orthodoxy Worldwide). Part of me wants to order, the other part would rather save up for another Bible I have come across (through my priest) that was translated by some Greek Monastery out west and that has excellent notes often directly from Church Fathers and other excellent sources.

However, at the same time, I would love a user friendly Bible that says "Orthodox" on it Kind of a shallow reason to want it, but it was also always nice to have the reading list in the back, especially for Lent. So I am still not sure if I want to get one.

Our Parish received 2 cases of bonded leather and 2 cases of hardcover.

I was going to get a hardcover, but I broke down and got a bonded leather.

I got my hardcover last week, I am not a huge fan on leather and I usually over my Bibles anyway. Did anyone else notice how thin the pages are, although I guess that is common in a lot of Bibles, I am a fan of heartier stock ;-) I have noticed a few little things I didn't like in the comment but as or the translations I usually start to read what I think it should say and not notice what it really says!

Oh, they're out now?! That's awesome! I have the NT, but I really want the whole thing. Now I know what to ask for for my birthday. It may not be perfect, but it's still pretty good.

I just got mine (hardcover) from my parish on Sunday. I don't think any of the drawbacks are significant enough to worry about. But I just started going through it so we'll see.

I've been looking forward to this bible for a long time now and I am very pleased to finally have a LXX for once.

I agree, Canuck! I've never had the Septuagint before. That alone makes the OSB worthwhile.

I recieved the hardcover and the leather today by USPS. I was kind of disappointed by the leather... I thought it would be a bit more stylish... oh well. If I was to give one as a gift it'd be the hardback.

Here's pictures... The hardbound stays open nicely without holding it also in the beginning and end. The leather stays open in the middle area.
For the road warriors... I also weighed them. The Hardbound weighs 2 lbs 12 oz, the leather bound without the box weighs 2 lbs 7 oz.
I still hold my thought that the leather one feels a bit cheap but I think it'd probably hold up better for travel purposes.

I was expecting the leatherbound to have "Holy Bible" on the front of it like most do... sorta surprised it is plain.

What does the hardcover look like without the paper covering? I always mess those up.

Oh, and I notice the hardbound doesn't have the built in bookmark.

That's unfortunate that the leather is cheap. Oh well, I've already ordered it so I guess that's what I'll be living with!

Wow, taking the dust cover off the hardbound makes me even more disappointed in the leather...

The pictures look great Jenn, but I have to confess; I'm leaning more toward the hardbound copy after seeing it without the jacket on it. I take it that there are icons within it like the OSB New Testament, how are they?

They are pretty good. Nothing majorly exciting but they are good icons.
