  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is the meaning of this verse, from the Orthodox Christian perspective? Is it saying Jesus was a Jew, or something else?

“Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

“Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.

The Samaritans worshiped on Mt Gerizim. They have also altered the Torah to say as much (this was even added in the 10 Commandments). They built it in the 5th century BC. While the Jewish temple was in Jerusalem. Yeshua was basically telling her that both Temples will be destroyed (The Temple in Jerusalem in 70 AD and the Temple on Mt Gerizim was destroyed by John Hyrcanus in 111 BC) so there will be no worship at either place. Jews also regarded Samaritans as "unclean". Read Isaiah 2:3

The promised Mashiakh (Yeshua...salvation) was to come from Judah. Judaism is 3200 yrs old while Samaritanism is but 2400 yrs old.
