Hey guys, my friend has put out an EO blog. If you're interested:

Is your friend's blog based upon the Bible/scripture, and church history? I hope so, cos both are important for Christians, whether that be Orthodox, Catholic or some Protestants.

I'm asking my friend about that. I never even noticed that.
it doesn’t mean it’s a bad blog or anything, just that in our modern times there seems to be this desire to rehabilitate Origen.

Ok, so my blogging friend says he is sympathetic with those who are pro-Origen but he doesn't pray to him, or wish to battle the EO church about him, but he would like to see a council consider the reevaluation of Origen's foundational teachings (but not life before conception, or universal salvation which my friend rejects).

He didn't mean to link @origen6 with the blog or his writings, it was just a handle he happened to choose at the time, he wasn't trying to make a "statement" or anything.

but his teachings have been evaluated. the good has been kept and the bad rejected.

not sure what more we can do.
When you say the good has been kept, how so? Does EO accept and teach what's good/true even if it came from a heretical source?

his works that are not heretical (like his Philokalia which was compiled by the Cappadocians).

yes, because if it’s good and true it’s actually from God, even if we first heard it from a heretic.

I tend to view Origen as a tragic figure in that he was noble and had the courage of a martyr ( he was tortured by pagans). His spiritual teachings seem most peculiar though. For ex:

Origen taught that, before the creation of the material universe, God had created the souls of all the intelligent beings. These souls, at first fully devoted to God, fell away from him and were given physical bodies

Compare 1 Corinthians 15:42-58.

Later note, Origen also saw his father ( St. Leonides) executed by pagans.
