• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have to be able to get the 60th percentile on the ACS exams. So, resonance, a lot of mechanisms, spectra without a chart to a degree, hybridization, stability or resonance forms, sigma/pi bonds (which is apparently also used to determine if something is aromatic...?), functional groups, etc, etc, etc. But I don't need to make the lab grades again, I have enough lab classes to show that I know my way around in lab.

The ACS exam will likely be way easier than your regular exams. Take heart in that! Most of my friends spent minimal effort studying for the final after doing well in the class got at least 60th percentile on the ACS exam. Be sure to get the official practice book, that thing is a life-saver.

Huckel's rule.

I found labs to be very useful, I learnt more organic chem theory doing 1 year of research in my MSc than I did in my whole undergrad.

Because, IIRC, hydrogen might just not be electronegative ENOUGH to make it a fully ionic bond.

Also, now I'm on to memorizing TWENTY TWO function groups. YAY.

alkanes
alkenes
alkynes
allenes
carbonyls
carboxylic acid
alcohols
ketones
esters
ethers
amines
amides
sulfides
sulfones
and a double handful of others that I'll need to look up. And memorize for tuesday. yay.

keep on solving chemical reactions, and chemical problems and after a while you wont even think about what goes where and why...your hand will remember the reaction mechanism on its own :p
helps if you have a very good teacher though ;)
