Hi everyone,

Do you enjoy opera, my musical passion? I can hardly wait to post links to the best singing I've ever heard. So before I write enough posts to be able to do that, please visit YouTube to look up a gorgeous, non-operatic pieces that I can hardly stop playing, Elina Granca's interpretation of William Gomez's Ave Maria. To my highbrow ears, it's exquisite.

Nessus dorms gives me the chills every time
Wow! That's a very popular aria I should hear more often than I do now. Thanks. I think I'll watch Turandot tonight. If my memory is working properly, "Nessun Dorma" means "No one must sleep," and I probably am an insomniac. :)

Personally, I like Rene Fleming singing Schubert's Ave Maria:

Renée Fleming - Ave Maria (Schubert) - YouTube

for Opera, I am a fan, mostly focusing on Janacek, Mozart, Puccini and Verdi.
Brendan, thank you for the super video. I love Fleming's singing, especially her interpretation of "The Song to the Moon" from Dvorak's opera Rusalka.

Here's my favorite Ave Maria, the Bach-Gounod one, sung by Arno Raunig, one of two most gifted countertenors I've ever heard.

Verdi is my favorite composer, Madama Butterfly is my favorite Puccini opera, and to my ears, Jussi Bjorling is the best Rodolfo ever.

Here is a very underrated artist who has stepped into the music scene in recent years. She is performing one of my personal favorites, O Mio Babbino Caro.

YouTube America's Got Talent 2009 Final Barbara Padilla September 14 09 - YouTube

And the same song by then 10-year-old (now 13) Jackie Evancho!

Jackie Evancho Sings "O Mio Babbino Caro" - YouTube

That beautiful Puccini aria called "Oh my dear little baby" seems great for Evancho's voice. Sadly, the character is telling her father that she wants to jump into the Arno River to kill herself. So she begs, "Daddy, have pity, have pity."

I didn't know that. It is still a nice melody, but it makes me see the song in a whole new light. Thanks for telling me. I may have to check out translations of some of these songs on my own when I get time. It would make for an interesting study.

At any rate, the artists I posted gave pretty good performances of that song, in my opinion; if anything, it was to show how these performers, while both talented, handled the same song in completely different ways.

Ooh, that's my favorite Ave Maria, the Bach-Gounod one and the best version of it I've ever heard Miss Evancho sing. I usually hear it from singers with voices bigger than hers.

That young lady certainly has the potential to go far. :)
