Is it as simple as the dictionary definition; to cease to feel resentment against (an offender). Is there anything in your view that is unforgivable?

i don't think it is so simple as the dictionary defines. maybe the dictionary definition just states the end of the period of forgiveness.

for me, there is nothing unforgivable. there are things that take a long time for me to forgive in its totality tho.

I think of forgiveness as a process. Sometimes there is more to let go of then other times so the time involved can vary. I do not think there is anything that is unforgivable bcause to not forgive someone is to carry that anger/resentment/bad feeling with you which will only consume your heart. God is the one to judge other's actions so I leave it in His hands and forgive, but I know God gave me a memory for a reason so I try to remember without associating the feelings with the memory (which is sometimes difficult).

Forgiveness is the covering of transgressions. One thing that can not be forgiven is the blaspheming of the Holy Sprirt. blaspheming is showing conempt for God. When you attack someone with malicious intent, you prevent yourself from being able to receive anything from them.

Unforgiveness is often associated with revenge. But such a notion comes from a misunderstanding of the nature of vengence, as well as forgiveness.

Sometimes forgiveness is about resolve, about making a decision, free from anger/resentment/bad feeling. And so is revenge; to take revenge upon a trangressor to whom we feel unforgiveness may be to find resolution, so take revenge. How do we best take revenge upon our enemy? Forgiveness. Forgive the person that you least want to, and do it on your terms; they wont want forgiveness, so pile it upon them. I have done this it works.

Forgiveness is available on all occassions. However I do agree there are times when it is more difficult to forgive and the forgiveness becomes a process and during that process usually also comes a type of 'healing' that allows the forgivenss to take place - fully and completely.

I agree that forgiveness is a process. one thing forgiveness does NOT mean is that the one needing forgiveness is necessarily trustworthy (if they have proven they are not). We leave the judgment up to God surely. But a shown murderer who is happy to kill again does not need to be our kid's babysitter, even though we forgive them of their past offenses. some people are just not trustworthy.

And God can surely save all sinners and give a new heart, but in seeking repentance along with it. that is another matter though.

Sounds simplistic I know, but I think forgiveness can be sumed up in the hackneyed old phrase 'let go, and let God.'

To make a decision free from anger/resentment/bad feeling is to be able to forgive. I don't think of forgiveness as revenge because it is ultimately what everyone wants and needs (even those who do not know how to ask for it or receive it).

Forgiveness - something which is sadly lacking in the world today.

Is anything unforgiveable? - that is very difficult to answer. IMHO the answer should be no, but I don't think it is just as simple as that.

Forgiveness can be real tough. Beneficial, but tough.

Someone needs to draw a line in the sand though...guess it will be me. There is a difference between forgiving offense and being a doormat. I can forgive someone, but in the same sentence, I then can refuse to take their sh*t anymore. So maybe it just has to be said that forgiveness is not the same as staying in a victim mentality.

I can think of a few things that I am not sure I could forgive but then I decide to leave God the judge of there actions and not me.

True. That's kinda why I threw in the curve ball with likening forgiveness to revenge - forgiveness requires effort and willpower and strength, like revenge.

But tru too, Ms Trying, forgiveness should just be in us all. Do we all need revenge? As I outlined it, not as is generally ill-defined. You know me girl, I like to talk in circles and use opposities to make a point sometimes.
