Our church espouses that belief. In other words, if you're saved (by grace through faith apart from works) and have no unconfessed sin (that you know of), then you may join us at communion. Is that the norm for Baptists?

Not at the Baptist church I go to, communion is for members only.

the word "IF" you used above is the key here...who really knows where a person is spiritually other than God? Do we (man) set ourselves up to be judge of another?

I have. They have the elders stand by the communion table to divert people who are not members. I visited one church that passed the communion elements around, and the elders walked along every ron to make sure no one took unless they were members. In one catholic church I visited, the priest refused to give communion to a non-catholic man who obviously didn't know the ritual. He pulled the cup away from the man right in front of the whole congregation, and this was at a funeral. And finally, I visited a church where the elders walked along the aisle pointing at people who could go up and take communion. All different denominations, all different ways of making sure that only "we" can go, and none of "them."
