I feel confident that if all is realtively normal that I won't need any pain medication. However, if something arises and I feel pain medication is prudent- then I absolutely will.
I have insurance... I pay 20% of everythingyou have to pay for them? I didn't have to pay for mine with Emily, I had a medical card tho...but I thought pretty much every pregnant woman was eligible for a medical card while they were pregnant...
An epidural can drastically slow your labor....(of course you don't feel it, usually, so that aspect doesn't really matterNope! I talked to several women and they all said it was easier to tell how hard you're pushing without meds and so you can push the baby out sooner. It doesn't make your labor shorter, just the amount of time you have to push.
Yep, I meant any sort of pain medicine, not just epiduralsI put yes but it depends on what you mean by meds.
My plan will be to not have an epidural unless i have to.
But i will have gas and air to take the edge off of the pain.
Is gas and air classed as meds?
Our insurance pays 100% of everything so we are really blessed in that aspect. DH has excellent insurance.
I originally said I was having pain meds then rethought it and decided I could go without because I would rather do it naturally. However, this last week, I got really sick and really, really dehydrated which sent me into regular contractions (basically false labor) and those contractions HURT!!!!So now, I really don't know. I am going to talk to my doctor at my next appointment and see what my options are. I am thinking maybe just a local in the birth canal might not be so bad...
My mom just had a local in the birth canal with my sister and me. Like I said, I don't know whether that is an option or not until I talk to the doctor tomorrow. It was, but I don't know if it still is. I am just hoping that I can do something effective OTHER than an epidural. I am so afraid of landing one of those spinal headaches it is ridiculous. Plus, I don't know how comfortable I am with people being around my spine....I've never heard of getting a local anaesthetic in the birth canal except aftewards if a woman has had a tear or an epi and it needs to be sewn up.
I had pethidine with my first two, with Grace I had gas and air and I spent most of labour in the bath, i found that the water really took the edge of the pain, so that's my advice, jump in the bath.
