Arguably so, but the belief system in question is post-medieval. It lacks the medieval willingness to accept metaphorical and symbolic meanings.

Now this is IMO one of the best points that has been made in the thread.

Although multiculturalists hate the thought, it is impossible to separate modern Christianity and Western Civilization, products of Greek philosophy and Roman law.

Northern European spirituality, which celebrated and was dependent upon metaphorical and symbolic meanings -- the legend of King Arthur is an example -- was eventually defeated by the Roman Church. Celtic Christianity lost to Augustine at Whitby.
