  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

that's my hometown:thumbsup:

while I don't agree with what the private school did (yes, it is legalism and has no place in Christianity) - it is their rule and the family (son included) knew it was their rule so they have to face the consequences

You have a good point edie. I don't agree with the restriction as well...and wouldn't choose to send my children (if I had childrend)to a private school with those restrictions...

I do wonder though...was it clearly stated he couldn't attend functions at other schools where dancing and such is not restricted.

I understand abiding by school policy...but does that policy also pertain off school grounds?

The article says the young man got his principal to sign the form he needed to attend the other school's prom...

...where was the comminucation failure I wonder?

Did Frost and his parents clearly understand the consequences:

The teen, who is scheduled to receive his diploma May 24, would be suspended from classes and receive an "incomplete" on remaining assignments, England said. Frost also would not be permitted to attend graduation but would get a diploma once he completes final exams. If Frost was involved with alcohol or sex at the prom, he would be expelled, England said

The article says he received a warning...but was it clear? Apparently they didn't expect these measures would be taken.

While it's absurd legalistic and from what I have read and seen on the news the school is at least partialy responsible since they seem to clearly give parents and students no idea what kind of punishment there going to get for violating the morality rules until after this committee meets. I wonder to if the reason why the committee came down so hard on this kid is because they feel his parents haven't made enough extra fininacial donations to the school over the years.

That's what I was thinking...it didn't seem clear in the article if the school principal made the repercussions clear when he signed the form for the student to attend the public school's prom.

And with such severe repercussions...the principal should have made it quite clear to the student AND his parents before signing the form. Perhaps he should have even flatly refused to sign it stating the rules of the morality clause as the reason.

Interesting stupid stuff.

I think maybe he should have refused to sign because of morality clause too. But more importantly if the school is going to have listed behaviors that they consider immoral in the handbook then they also need to have clearly defined in writting in the handbook what the punishment for each offense is. That way the parents and students know what they really getting into.

Part of the effects of Bethel School District v. Fraser was that schools need to have a clear list of "action" and "possible consequences".

Apparently these legalists didn't listen to that! :D

Here's what I want to know...

Why did the principal sign Frost's form if he wasn't supposed to go??

Wouldn't that be like me signing a permission slip for a field trip and then suing the school when they took my son to a baseball game or something?

Well PreachersWife he might not have signed if he realized how hard the commitee was going to come down on the guy.
Heck I'm wondering how they decide what punishments to give maybe commitee spins a wheel of punishment with possible out comes listed on it ranging from stern lecture to pear of anguish.
