  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anybody know anything about online degrees? Do they hold the same merit as a degree earned in a regular school?

I am considering University of Phoenix to get my Bachelors in Psychology and then transfering to a regular school for my graduate studies. Anybody have any info they can give me?

Unfortunately I don't have any specifics. But I do have a cousin who's doing an MBA online through the University of Phoenix. As far as I can tell, an online degree from an accredited school is just as good as a degree from any other school.

Thanks:thumbsup:

University of Phoenix is actually the one I'm looking at right now.

I am always skeptical about an online degree. That doesn't mean that they are worthless, but rather evaluate them on a case by case basis. There are some online schools I would NEVER consider attending. Others are as difficult if not more difficult. I've heard very good things about University of Phoenix, except price.

A degree from an online school holds the same merit as a degree from a conventional school. However, Fuzzy made a good point. I read a story in Business Week last year that ranked a bunch of online schools. It said to be careful in choosing one-- make sure you choose one that is indead legit and accredited.

My brother is getting his Masters online from this school:

Just like Phoenix, this program is pricey ($14,000). When he gets his PHD online(prolly from Phoenix) I think he said it would be around 30 g's.

There are two people in my adolescent psychology class this semester who are evidently taking classes with UofP as well as at my school. They were saying they like my school better (teachers, cost, service, etc) but I guess since they are getting a degree from UofP that it must be alright. I got some mail from the University of Phoenix and they were also at my school's transfer fair last year. I'd say if you know where you want to go to grad school, call those places and ask them what they think of the University of Phoenix and any other questions you have.

I am taking online classes from Colorado Christian University and I love it! I miss the interaction of a college campus but at the same time it saves time and money. I am paying about half of what I was going to if I had stayed on campus. Also, the classes are only about seven weeks long instead of the semester it normally takes. Now this maybe different from your actual online colleges but I thought the input might help. Hope it does! :)

Online colleges being colleges where you study the material online?
We don't have them here but we do have the biggest correspondence university in the world with lots of overseas students. They send you tutorial letters telling you what the prescribed book is, giving you assignments and sometimes you get a study guide.
Its worth checking out: www.unisa.ac.za
If the link doesn't work let me know, it might be wrong, its from memory.
Year modules cost R700-R800 per year excluding the cost of the textbook but semester modules are cheaper.
